ma3zi1 Posted October 7, 2010 at 07:17 PM Report Share Posted October 7, 2010 at 07:17 PM Saw this as a profile pick on my friend's facebook page. On the top it looks like: 喜 券春 (with another character wrapping around the rest that has 示字旁) On the bottom I see: 五福?門 To the left of that is a name, maybe..? 砳朶? What is the top character wrapping around the rest? What does this all mean?
Outofin Posted October 7, 2010 at 08:47 PM Report Share Posted October 7, 2010 at 08:47 PM 福寿喜春 五福临门 The 福 surrounding other characters almost lost its original shape, but recognizable because it's such a commonly seen character on holiday posters. Basically you can write it as a very big '3' with a 'x' inside its lower circle, and people know what you're writing.
jbradfor Posted October 7, 2010 at 08:52 PM Report Share Posted October 7, 2010 at 08:52 PM Ah. Couldn't get the 臨 at all, as I was sure that the right-hand-side was 畐, so I couldn't see anything else.... How about the words in the outline of Taiwan? ma3zi1 Posted October 8, 2010 at 01:15 AM Author Report Share Posted October 8, 2010 at 01:15 AM Y'know it's funny. Right after I posted it, I realized what the 五福臨門 part was. But, I have never seen that variant of 臨 before. As far as the giant 福 goes, thank you for your help! I would never have understood that without some explanation. That still leaves the little white Taiwan-shaped stuff, but that's pretty hard to read as-is.
