aoliwei Posted October 14, 2010 at 11:22 AM Report Posted October 14, 2010 at 11:22 AM Just wondering if someone could help me translate this passage into Simplified characters... It would be such a great help!!!! In April 2009, I went to China for a month with my younger sister. We visited six cities: Guangzhou, Hengyang, Changsha, Ningbo, Shanghai and Beijing. Ningbo was my favourite city. While in Beijing, we spent a week with a homestay family. Mr Chu was very funny. He didn’t like to speak English, and spoke only in Chinese. He asked lots of questions about Australian life and culture. He also really liked eating peanuts. He once asked me, “Are the peanuts in Australia imported or grown onshore?” Mrs Chu was very kind. She took us to many of China’s best tourist locations such as the Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven and the Forbidden city. She also took me and my younger sister to a restaurant where we ate Peking Duck. It was delicious! Ming Chu was a very committed student! She spent up to 8 hours a day at school, and when she came home she studied some more. I miss my homestay family very much. I will go back to china this December, and hopefully visit them again! New Members cnzykm Posted October 15, 2010 at 09:09 AM New Members Report Posted October 15, 2010 at 09:09 AM Here is the translation according to your travel note ;) : 1 Quote
Lu Posted October 16, 2010 at 12:09 PM Report Posted October 16, 2010 at 12:09 PM If this is your homework, which to be honest is what it looks like, perhaps you can first give it a try yourself, and post the results here. People here will be happy to correct you or explain difficult things to you. 2 Quote
889 Posted October 17, 2010 at 02:09 PM Report Posted October 17, 2010 at 02:09 PM And if it is your homework, that wonderful translation's not going to fool anyone. The only issue I see is that "onshore" in the original text refers to onshore in the onshore-offshore context; that is, domestic vs. foreign. It doesn't mean the peanuts are 在岸边自己长出来的. (Unless they're being grown pre-salted.) Quote
anonymoose Posted October 17, 2010 at 02:23 PM Report Posted October 17, 2010 at 02:23 PM Is 储 the only possible or only likely character for the name? And assuming the husband's family name is 储, how normal would it be to call his wife 储太太 (assuming she, by coincidence, didn't also have the family name 储)? And given the daughter is called Chu Ming, again, how certain is it that 储明 are the correct characters? Also, something else I just noticed... 我与我的小妹妹曾经于2009年4月去过中国 Perhaps I'm erroneously applying English grammar to Chinese, but, if a time is explicitly stated, is it still correct to use 过? Quote
xiaocai Posted October 18, 2010 at 12:06 AM Report Posted October 18, 2010 at 12:06 AM But if you used 曾/曾经 earlier it will sound better with 过, I think. Quote
