Mandarin domain names

Hi,

I was wondering if Mandarin domain names (released recently) are presently common in China. Will they be?

I've seen that there will be both traditional and simplified domain names.

Will there be a latin equivalent?

I've searched all the web but couldn't find a complete documentation on this.

Thanks

I live in Beijing and have never seen a single website with a domain name that contained chinese characters (or Chinese anywhere in the address). (At least on advertisements, in stores, etc.)

Though I would also be interested to know if it's possible, since I am actually about to register a domain name myself...

I assume they don't exist.

No, it is not currently possible for individuals to register a name using Chinese characters. However, ICANN (the organization that controls domain name standards) is beginning to introduce non-Latin character domain names (see here), and apparently it is actually possible to get a Chinese domain name
