New Members Chris U Posted October 19, 2010 at 04:02 AM New Members Report Share Posted October 19, 2010 at 04:02 AM Hey everyone. I have the following sentence that I need to translate into Chinese for my Chinese class: "I'd like to go to your office right now to ask you a question. Is that okay?" I put the following: "现在我想问您一个问题在您办公室。好吗" Although I have a feeling that this is not correct. Is there a way to integrate the verb 去 into this sentence? If someone could help I would appreciate it. Thanks! -Chris

Daan Posted October 20, 2010 at 04:30 PM Report Share Posted October 20, 2010 at 04:30 PM zhxlier's translation is correct. A good rule of thumb is that adverbial phrases expressing the time or location at which the verb takes place generally go before the verb. Therefore, you can't say 问您一个问题在您办公室: you have to say 在您办公室问您一个问题. It's better to say 在您的办公室 though, as in zhxlier's translation. The 的 is needed here to express possession. Of course, you're not expressing the location where you want to 问您一个问题, you're suggesting going there, so you have to use 去 and give the place where you want to go. After that, yuo can optionally indicate what you want to do when you're there: 我明天要去北京。'I am going to Beijing tomorrow.' 我明天要去北京买书。'I am going to Beijing tomorrow to buy books'. Note that the adverb 明天 goes before 要.
