Thank you both for taking the time to look into this for me.

Neither of your suggestions are even close to the "strength and honour" I was led to believe I was getting.

Not a problem really, as I got the design based on how it looked, and not on what it was (supposed) to have read.

When confronted with "whats your tattoo stand for mate?" I tend to just blurt out the first thing to come into my head anyway.

The Japanese police, and Japanese media by request of the police, call them bōryokudan (暴力団), literally "violence group"

If you travel to Japan, I suggest not showing off that tattoo.
