kongli Posted October 25, 2010 at 01:53 PM Report Share Posted October 25, 2010 at 01:53 PM Does anyone else have character input problems? When I write characters in zdt, anki and apparently this forum as well, some come out incorrectly. An example being 门. However when I type in a word document or in wenlin the characters look normal. I am using the simplified pinyin software on my mac. Can anyone tell me what's going on and how to fix it? Thanks.
abcdefg Posted October 25, 2010 at 01:55 PM Report Share Posted October 25, 2010 at 01:55 PM It is probably a font problem. Try another font, such as SimSun, and see how it looks.
jbradfor Posted October 25, 2010 at 01:56 PM Report Share Posted October 25, 2010 at 01:56 PM What is wrong with 门?
kongli Posted October 25, 2010 at 02:07 PM Author Report Share Posted October 25, 2010 at 02:07 PM I think I tried SimSum before and it didn't work, but I will try again. It is something you download from the internet right? @Jbradfor-Either you're joking or one of us has been severely misinformed, I better go make a phone call...... Hofmann Posted October 25, 2010 at 02:10 PM Report Share Posted October 25, 2010 at 02:10 PM Please be more specific about what's wrong with the characters.
jbradfor Posted October 25, 2010 at 02:17 PM Report Share Posted October 25, 2010 at 02:17 PM Either you're joking or one of us has been severely misinformed, For once, I'm actually not joking. And while it's probably I that is misinformed, it sure looks OK to me. [Well, as OK as that simplified form looks....] Could you post a screen capture? This is what it looks like to me: [Oh well, that didn't come out a well as I would have hoped. Roddy, any way to resize it to its actual dimensions?] LATER EDIT: here's another screen capture, from http://www.mdbg.net/...&wdqb=%E9%97%A8
abcdefg Posted October 25, 2010 at 02:42 PM Report Share Posted October 25, 2010 at 02:42 PM I think I tried SimSum before and it didn't work, but I will try again. It is something you download from the internet right? No. You don't need to download anything. You must be thinking of something else. Within Anki and within ZDT you are given a choice of fonts. Some common fonts used in typing English don't display well and give you lines, circles, squares and distorted partial Hanzi. Select SimSun within those programs and also select the size of type you want for your flashcards. In Anki, open "Settings" and you will see "Fonts and Colors." Do it there. In ZDT, open the "Window" menu and click on "Preferences." You can select font and character size there. Some others besides SimSun are possible as well, but it's a good, safe starting point. I'm assuming you have enabled East Asian Languages on your computer. I don't use a Mac, so I only know how to do that for a Windows system. Mac may not even require it. I'm not much of a computer guy.
kongli Posted October 26, 2010 at 04:43 AM Author Report Share Posted October 26, 2010 at 04:43 AM @jbradfor-Well the second stroke in the sequence should be a dash in between the other two parts of 门,but what I just typed has a line through the middle. Anyway I changed my ZDT fonts to Simsum and am still experiencing the problem. Does anyone else no any other alternative?
