Kenny同志 Posted October 27, 2010 at 03:54 AM Report Posted October 27, 2010 at 03:54 AM 地沟油(http://baike.baidu.com/view/1176.htm) 地沟油 in English The China Daily calls it “swill-cooked oil”, but I can’t find the term on any western media. This makes me wonder if there’s an established equivalent in English to 地沟油. And if not, does the translation furnished by the China Daily make good sense? Thank you in advance. Quote
OneEye Posted October 27, 2010 at 05:02 AM Report Posted October 27, 2010 at 05:02 AM I think the translation I've seen most often is "gutter oil." Usually you'll have to explain what it is, because most Westerners will probably be unfamiliar with (and shocked by) this practice. Quote
