feihong Posted November 19, 2010 at 11:12 PM Author Report Posted November 19, 2010 at 11:12 PM "腫瘤" is a reference to the bump on his head that he got from being smacked by 小茜 on the previous page. The "famous bathroom scene" must be that scene in volume 1 where male Ranma first meets Akane. Quote
renzhe Posted November 19, 2010 at 11:13 PM Report Posted November 19, 2010 at 11:13 PM The bathroom scene is, of course this. The original Mainland version has most of it redrawn (badly!). I can't find page 139 in Volume 2, can you help? Which part of vol 2, what is it about? Quote

jbradfor Posted November 21, 2010 at 01:21 AM Report Posted November 21, 2010 at 01:21 AM Thanks. My other guess for the "famous bathroom scene" was when Ranma found out Ryoga's "secret" starting here. Something tells me there are more bathroom scenes to come.... Quote
feihong Posted December 1, 2010 at 07:08 PM Author Report Posted December 1, 2010 at 07:08 PM At the end of the month, I ended up in the middle of Volume 21. More than halfway done with this massive series. It's pretty much as renzhe said, this is excellent bedtime reading. It's not terribly hard, but still makes for decent reading practice. In particular, it's good material for advanced learners who know simplified characters well but are still shaky on traditional characters. The text is easy enough that I can often figure out what the character is without having to look it up. Although I'm not reading at such an intense pace anymore, I intend to keep reading Ranma. Maybe one day I'll even finish it. P.S. I think the Hawaiian principal character is awful. All the storylines that feature him fall flat. I don't mind the sports-themed story arcs too much, though. renzhe Posted December 1, 2010 at 09:06 PM Report Posted December 1, 2010 at 09:06 PM Hehe, I'm close to finishing the whole series again (I did start before it was covered in this project, though). A little bit each night, and you're over before you know it! I don't know what I'll do for nighttime reading when I'm done. 福星小子 maybe. Quote
jbradfor Posted December 2, 2010 at 05:16 AM Report Posted December 2, 2010 at 05:16 AM I ended the month in the middle of volume 3.... Quote
Gleaves Posted December 8, 2010 at 02:44 PM Report Posted December 8, 2010 at 02:44 PM I finally finished up volume 1 yesterday. Great comic. Very funny. Thanks for the recommendation. I might try to pick up the entire series to have some light reading to carry around. Question, though - what's the level of bathroom scenes through the rest of the series? (Volume 1 felt a tiny bit risque in parts for my train ride.) Quote
jbradfor Posted December 8, 2010 at 03:24 PM Report Posted December 8, 2010 at 03:24 PM I'm mostly through vol 3, so I can't comment on the whole series, but let's just say that this is not the last time you see breasts and people taking a bath. See the link in my post #24, for example. Quote
feihong Posted December 8, 2010 at 04:41 PM Author Report Posted December 8, 2010 at 04:41 PM Bathroom scenes happen a lot less frequently, but as a rule casual toplessness is a pretty common theme throughout the series. Quote
Chinadoog Posted January 8, 2011 at 10:18 AM Report Posted January 8, 2011 at 10:18 AM Just finished volume 1 which was great. I'm going to read atleast 50 pages a day, and hopefully finish all of it. 2 Quote
feihong Posted January 9, 2011 at 02:43 PM Author Report Posted January 9, 2011 at 02:43 PM @Chinadoog: If you intend to read all of Ranma, you may need to learn traditional characters. The later volumes are all in traditional (at least those that are online). Quote
Chinadoog Posted January 9, 2011 at 04:07 PM Report Posted January 9, 2011 at 04:07 PM Well now I have a good reason to learn traditional characters... I've planned on learning them eventually, but I still feel like there are a lot of important characters that I don't know but want to learn before learning traditional It looks like the switch happens at volume 16.. that really doesn't give me much time -_- Quote
Gleaves Posted January 9, 2011 at 04:41 PM Report Posted January 9, 2011 at 04:41 PM Chinadoog - Here's a helpful thread on the jump from 简体字 to 繁体字. Definitely worth it. Quote
feihong Posted January 10, 2011 at 03:42 AM Author Report Posted January 10, 2011 at 03:42 AM @Chinadoog: If you want a gentler way to ramp up on traditional characters, you could try reading some Yotsuba first. Quote
Chinadoog Posted January 10, 2011 at 06:00 AM Report Posted January 10, 2011 at 06:00 AM Yeah, I realize that a lot of comics are only available online in traditional characters, and since I like reading these comics, learning traditional will definitely be worth it. Quote
jbradfor Posted April 8, 2011 at 02:15 PM Report Posted April 8, 2011 at 02:15 PM Finished up vol 3 as a short break from Yotsaba&!. Quick question. On page 122 (http://www.89890.com/Comic/1308/3/?62) is the line "我是怕妳被那小子佔了便宜”. What does 佔 mean here? Quote
jbradfor Posted April 8, 2011 at 02:47 PM Report Posted April 8, 2011 at 02:47 PM Ah, thanks. So that sentence would translate into something like "I'm worried that that guy would easily take advantage of you."? Quote
feihong Posted April 9, 2011 at 02:33 PM Author Report Posted April 9, 2011 at 02:33 PM I think so. Except I don't know why you slipped the adverb "easily" in there. Quote
