Thanks. There was no request for this on the hard copy form - can you explain what it is/does?

Edit: nevermind - I understand.

Thanks for the response about current students at Chinese universities.

About the agency number, so on the online application, should I put agency number for my embassy or the University at which I would like to study?

Put the agency number for the university you wish to study at. Last time I checked this will result in the university's name automatically filling in your number one preferred slot.

Thank you Brian US for taking over!

I was offered a hot meal.

And you'll get it! Just as soon as I'm back in Beijing . . . . for which I admit there are no immediate plans . . .

'Scuse me? Promises? I suspect I have photographic evidence of at least some forums-funded eating you personally enjoyed . . .

I count three, although including food court noodles seems a bit cheap. I was so sad when that place closed down, loved their spicy goodness.

Keep up the good work Brian, and one day all this, or a meal of equivalent taste and value, will be yours . . .

Hi Brian (and CSC Goddess and other posters),

I've been following this forum for two months now, and over the past four weeks, I've been getting my ducks in a row: I live in the US, so I've had my school transcripts mailed home, notified profs that I'd love a rec from them, etc.

I guess what I'm looking for is a bit of advice/encouragement. The past 2 years of Forums have all detailed the pains of the CSC process, and from my end, I've had no luck getting info from the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco.

So, this week I've emailed three schools in Shanghai: Fudan, Jiaotong, and Tongji. I've asked each of them two questions: Basically, how many Masters Program CSC applicants each of them accept, and further, whether any of them accept applicants who ONLY apply to the CSC "Chinese Language Training Program".

I've had no response from Fudan. Tongji sent a Word document that was essentially what I found on their website. Jiao Tong has been very responsive, but they say that they accept NO applicants for the Chinese Language Program, and 20 for Postgrad.

I'd like to stay in Shanghai to study; ideally, to get my Masters. But, as there are several scholarships available from city governments for study, I was thinking that I should try a 2 pronged approach: apply to the CSC scholarship simply as an applicant for "Chinese Language Training", and apply to the city government scholarships for the Masters. I think this gives me the best chance overall of being able to stay in China as a student in 2011.

I've noticed that in past years, very few posters have applied in Shanghai; almost all in Beijing. I realize answers are hard to come by, but do you know if this is because Beijing schools will accept those who simply applied for language study? Whatever you've heard or know from personal experience or saw in a dream will be more concrete than the details I currently am working with....

A couple more questions:

1 I think you applied and won a masters scholarship, but do you know any folks I could contact who have simply gone in for "Chinese Language Training?"

2 I have the agency number for several schools I want to apply to, but do I only use 1 agency number, and then list 3 schools that I'd like?

3 I think you just sent all your documents last year to your home consulate? Jiao Tong told me I must send my app to their office - - but then again, they were only talking about Postgraduate apps, not the "Chinese Language Training" scholarship, which they don't support.

Okay, your eyes are now exhausted.

Thanks for whatever you can say.

Sebastian

Sorry that this is such an epic, but it's really been bothering me. Feels good just to put my frustrations out on the net for other like minded students. Anyway, a final question:

@crisgee,

Hi, I'm from the Philippines. I am really interested in applying for the CSC. Is the contact number of the PRC embassy here that you posted at the first page still the same? Can you help me with the application? Thanks!

I have a question, there's a part in the online application which I need to indicate the degree and major I will be pursuing but I'm interested in applying for the scholarship under CHINESE LANGUAGE STUDENT. What should I indicate in the degree and major fields? Thanks!
