BoA/CCB Money Transfers

Hi everyone,

before we left for China, I learned in these forums that Bank of America and China Construction Bank were partners and that I could exchange money through these banks free. Thanks for the information, I am sure we have saved a ton of money not having fees for using the CCB ATMs. However, I now need to send money home and am having difficulties. I found on the BoA website how to send money to my CCB account, but not transfer from CCB to BoA. The CCB websites are all in Chinese so I can't navigate them. My Foreign Affaris Officer went with me today to the CCB branch in our town to find out how to transfer money to our BoA account and they said it can't be done at any local bank. She said we have to go to Changde, about 2 hours away by bus, to another branch that has an international department. I really don't want to do that, especially on a regular basis just to send money home every month. Is there a way to transfer money internationally on the website? Or, short of that, what is the next best way to send money home? Is there western union or can I use PayPal? What is the cheapest way to do this?

Thanks a bunch!

Is there a Bank of China branch in your city? Try that.

Bank of China has more full-feature foreign exchange services than the other banks, I think.

What a small world! I am from 澧县 and I guess you must be a teacher of the NO. 1 middle high school of Lixian. If CCB can’t handle the international transfer maybe you could turn to the post office of the town(澧县邮政局). I once went there and found they were offering international money transfer services西联汇款 (it is very likely that they were partners with the Western Union).

Good luck!

Regards,

Kenny
