Chinadoog Posted November 8, 2010 at 09:24 AM Report Posted November 8, 2010 at 09:24 AM Hey guys. I live in China and want to order the NPCR 5-6 books and some others. Can anyone recommend me a good site to order books from? Quote
kdavid Posted November 8, 2010 at 11:26 AM Report Posted November 8, 2010 at 11:26 AM I've ordered all of my Chinese language textbooks from this website: http://www.wl.cn/ A friend of mine said he also just ordered from Amazon, which delivered to him here in Harbin. This must be a new service, as I don't recall Amazon delivering to China before. Anyway, wl.cn is a great service with competitive prices. Quote
liao Posted November 8, 2010 at 11:52 AM Report Posted November 8, 2010 at 11:52 AM I think your friend meant he ordered from amazon.cn also known as joyo.com I order a lot from Amazon here in Dalian. The delivery is a bit unexpected though. Its very fast and but they deliver to the gate of my university everday at 5pm. (This is for the fast delivery option--10rmb extra) and so once I know they have sent my books, the next day I go down to the gate and join the mosh pit of students asking the driver of the UNMARKED van for their packages. It actually works quite well, once you know what the system is. You also have the option of paying the driver for your books and not using your credit card on-line. 1 Quote
roddy Posted November 8, 2010 at 12:03 PM Report Posted November 8, 2010 at 12:03 PM Amazon.com and .co.uk (and I guess the others) will deliver to China for most things. Some stuff (audiovisual, electronics) they can't. Studychineseculture.com is run by a forum member, and has had good feedback, including some from me. Quote
gato Posted November 8, 2010 at 12:10 PM Report Posted November 8, 2010 at 12:10 PM For books published in mainland China, I split my orders between dangdang.com and amazon.cn. Both are about the same. Delivery is fast to big cities. The only problem is that sometimes the books can be a bit dirty. Seems to be a storage problem. I've seen it with both companies. Quote
roddy Posted November 8, 2010 at 12:28 PM Report Posted November 8, 2010 at 12:28 PM I've put that down to being bounced around the back of vans and bike boxes, though it could well be a warehouse thing. That said, the ones I've bought have just got dusty anyway, so . . . Quote
Chinadoog Posted November 8, 2010 at 02:56 PM Author Report Posted November 8, 2010 at 02:56 PM ah, i ordered a couple books from Studychineseculture.com last year and they were good. good customer service. i just couldn't remember the name of their website.. thanks for the suggestions. i'll probably just go with studychineseculture again since they have the books that i want Quote
joshuawbb Posted November 8, 2010 at 03:24 PM Report Posted November 8, 2010 at 03:24 PM You also have the option of paying the driver for your books and not using your credit card on-line. Ah, you can choose to pay in cash on delivery? How did I not see that before? Thanks for mentioning that, time now for me go check the place out, since the local bookstores here in Xiamen are lacking in various areas. Not that I'm knocking them all though, some have great stock, but often not the obscure book(s) I'm looking for (right now Boya Int/Adv textbooks). After all the time I've been in China, I've still found online payment a bit of a muddle with my Bank of China debit card. Sorry to be a pain and go a little off-topic, but could someone tell me if the Boya Advanced textbooks come with a CD? I know it seems quite obvious, but Joyo doesn't mention the CD in the listing, despite mentioning it for all the other textbooks. Quote
kdavid Posted November 9, 2010 at 12:23 AM Report Posted November 9, 2010 at 12:23 AM Sorry to be a pain and go a little off-topic, but could someone tell me if the Boya Advanced textbooks come with a CD? Yes, they do. I ordered all three volumes. They each came with a CD. Quote
Jane_PA Posted November 9, 2010 at 02:39 PM Report Posted November 9, 2010 at 02:39 PM Personally, my family and I always buy books from dangdang.com. We are local Chinese. Jane Quote
