missbrokensmile Posted November 9, 2010 at 06:40 AM Report Posted November 9, 2010 at 06:40 AM Does anyone have any books they can recommend for learning about science in Chinese? I know there was a thread about this previously (http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/10832-%E7%A7%91%E6%8A%80%E6%B1%89%E8%AF%AD-a-book-for-chinese-learners-about-science-and-technology), but I'm more interested in the other aspects of science than just vocabulary acquisition. I'm not necessarily looking for a book with scientific vocab (though I wouldn't mind), but also about scientific writing, ie. practical lab reports, etc. I'm not looking for anything too specialised. I've done biology, chemistry and physics up to year 12, so anything at that level (or below) is appreciated Quote
daofeishi Posted November 9, 2010 at 09:21 AM Report Posted November 9, 2010 at 09:21 AM You could always buy some high school textbooks? Also, there are many online resources that might be valuable, like http://sciencenet.cn/ Quote
Jane_PA Posted November 9, 2010 at 02:28 PM Report Posted November 9, 2010 at 02:28 PM Hi missbrokensmile, May I ask what kind of lab reports that you write? You said that you have 12 years in biology, chemistry and physics. Are you work as a science teacher at high school or research at a university or in a company? Without specific information, it would be difficult to give specific recommendation. When I went to school in China, the science class and textbook in the primary school is called 自然常识, zi4 ran2 chang2 shi2, which is a mixture of all science knowledge, like chemistry, physicis, and biology. In the middle school, we have separated physics, chemistry, and biology classes and textbooks. In high school, similar like middle school, but the knowledge is deeper and wider. You may try to look at dangdang http://book.dangdang.com/edu?ref=book-01-B If you need a high level science books, like college level or above, you may look for some higher education books. http://book.dangdang.com/tech I know dangdang is a good internet book store. 西单图书大厦 or 王府井书店 are two big physicial book stores usually I go when I am in Beijing. If you would like to know the Chinese writing in science, which we call 应用文写作,you may ask for some book of this kind to see is there anything useful for you. Jane Quote
missbrokensmile Posted November 9, 2010 at 04:29 PM Author Report Posted November 9, 2010 at 04:29 PM By year 12, I meant I've learnt about science up till grade 12 level. I'm not a teacher and I'm not currently pursing any science degree. I'm just curious about the equivalent corresponding science in Chinese Can anyone provide me with any of the middle school and/or high school textbook titles? Quote
gougou Posted November 10, 2010 at 03:47 AM Report Posted November 10, 2010 at 03:47 AM Check the webpage of the People's Education Press. Many (or all?) textbooks are available online there. Example: High School Physics. I find this fantastic and believe every country should make the textbooks used in public schools available for free! PS: It seems you need to use Internet Explorer to be able to turn pages. Quote
