New Members MomtoBe Posted November 17, 2010 at 03:30 PM New Members Report Share Posted November 17, 2010 at 03:30 PM Hi everyone, I am new to this site but would appreciate your knowledge and help with Chinese names. I am expecting a baby girl next month and having a tough time finding a two-character Chinese name for her. I am not good with Chinese characters or words at all! I think I've narrowed it down to a few options - can you please tell me if you think these sound good, or if they are weird? The last name is 盧 (lu2). I would like one of the characters to be 潔 (jie2) if possible, since this is in my name as well. I'm also trying to stick with characters that will give an auspicious number of total strokes - because I like to make things difficult for myself. ;) Here are the ideas I've come up with so far: 潔 明 (jie ming) 恩 潔 (en jie) 欣 潔 (xin jie) 愿 潔 (yuan jie) Do any of these seem good to you?? Thanks for the input!
rx_11 Posted November 21, 2010 at 04:53 PM Report Share Posted November 21, 2010 at 04:53 PM 潔 明 (jie ming) 恩 潔 (en jie) 欣 潔 (xin jie) 愿 潔 (yuan jie) WOW. These four names are so good!!! Really!! I am a native Chinese, and I think these four names are so nice and cute, and very good to listen. If your baby is a girl, I recommend you the three: 恩 潔 (en jie) 欣 潔 (xin jie) 愿 潔 (yuan jie), because the first one seems somewhat like a boy's name. However, it is still good. Let me do something further. 潔 明 (jie3 ming2) means frank, shine, and bright 恩 潔 (en1 jie2) means thankful, peaceful heart, clean and neat 欣 潔 (xin1 jie2) means beautiful, brilliant, and clever 愿 潔 (yuan jie) means blessing, luck, and peaceful Hope that helps. ;)

mushroom Posted November 22, 2010 at 09:38 AM Report Share Posted November 22, 2010 at 09:38 AM Why your baby need a Chinese name? If this name will be used in Chinese world, I suggest follow Chinese culture. In Chinese culture, the naming taboo of the clan discouraged the use of the names of one's own parents. Since "潔" is in your name, your baby's name should not include "潔". You may see the following: 避諱 Naming taboo
mushroom Posted November 22, 2010 at 01:50 PM Report Share Posted November 22, 2010 at 01:50 PM Anyway, if it must have "潔", I suggest 潔 is 2nd character to fit "平仄" tone, and 3rd character prefer "平" tone there for 盧潔恩 or 盧潔欣 is good. 盧潔明 is also 平仄平, but all in 2 tone (lu2 jie2 ming2), I suggest 221 for girl name. I thought it is NOT suitable to use 愿 for 3 reasons: 1. 盧潔愿 is "平仄仄" tone, not suitable for girl name 2. 愿 is rarely used in traditional chinese, if it means as "忠厚、謹慎". It is commonly used as varient form or simplify form of "願", all other characters are traditional form, mix use is not suggested. 3. "潔愿" sound same as "結怨" (Enmity) Please see: 平仄 Tone pattern

mushroom Posted November 23, 2010 at 08:53 AM Report Share Posted November 23, 2010 at 08:53 AM Yes, 潔 is entering tones (入聲) entering tones is disappear in mandarin, but still keep in many chinese dialect. My mother's language is Taiwanese, entering tones is easy to distinguish in Taiwanese.
