Wen Xing Posted November 21, 2010 at 09:04 AM Report Posted November 21, 2010 at 09:04 AM I am looking for the best desktop/offline chinese-english (vice-versa) dictionary. I'm currently using youdao dictionary (有道词典) and stardict. Youdao dictionary is a good application but the built-in dictionary is weak for looking a people name and word combination, so it depends heavily on the online resource by trying to connect to Internet every time it queries. So if by any chance my Internet connection has a speed problem, it will slow down the query process. And It seems I cannot disable its connecting to the internet. One of the positive feature that it has hand-writing input. It also can add user-defined dictionary (it accepts IFO format). But until now I can't find the IFO for youdao dict. However it is compatible with stardict's IFO although there is a little issue. But still the main problem is I can't disable the built-in dictionary, so the user-defined dictionary can't be set to top position for the result window. For Stardict, I'm just using it, can't say really much. The result layout is not a good-looking one, also it doesn't has a hand-writing input and I'm little overwhelmed with its selection of chinese dictionary (http://reciteword.cosoft.org.cn/stardict-iso/stardict-dic/zh_CN/). Anyone know among the list, what's the best chinese-english & english-chinese dictionary for stardict? Especially that has the near most complete entries for idiom (成语), people name, computer/IT term, etc. So, anyone can recommend me other better free desktop chinese dictionary? Quote
