crisgee Posted December 1, 2010 at 02:18 PM Report Posted December 1, 2010 at 02:18 PM Most of us are frustrated at how the Chinese internet can be so slow and hard to use, not to mention that some sites are even blocked by the GFC. But after coming here my Chinese friends have introduced me to some software that are quite awesome and convenient to use. For Chinese input i use Sogou Pinyin. It's the best I've used so far. And the dictionary is expandable to. Does anyone know if there is a OS X equivalent? OSX's native one is lightyears behind. I've almost abandoned my Mac because of this input problem. For music streaming I use Kuwo 酷我. If you're into Chinese music it's got tons. It also has some popular japanese, korean and western artists as well. I like the karaoke feature. It helps improve your character recognition! I heard there are others of the same kind like Kugou. I'd like to know how's your experience with them. For movie streaming I got Funshion and Pipi. I used to troop to Youku and Tudou for movies and tv shows but with these two all are in one place! I dunno if these things will work properly outside China. Perhaps the Chinese content will remain accessible. What cool software have you guys found? Quote
siqi_cn Posted December 1, 2010 at 04:13 PM Report Posted December 1, 2010 at 04:13 PM For movie, the PPS is also be a good choice. Quote
feihong Posted December 1, 2010 at 06:46 PM Report Posted December 1, 2010 at 06:46 PM For music streaming I've used Baidu's MP3 site. It used to have a terrible interface but now it's pretty decent, and it's reasonably fast even here in North America. I don't know how it compares to Kuwo, though. Quote
imron Posted December 1, 2010 at 10:09 PM Report Posted December 1, 2010 at 10:09 PM For the Mac input, use QIM. It has the same dictionary as Sogou and also has intelligent sentence construction, support for Wubi and more. It's not free, but it's worth every cent. If you prefer free, then FIT is better than the default input method that comes with OSX, but still not as good as QIM (that said, I haven't used FIT for over a year now so it might have improved). cui ruide Posted December 2, 2010 at 11:09 AM Report Posted December 2, 2010 at 11:09 AM I use music.google.cn and xiami.com for music. I sometimes use PPStream for movies, but sometimes I go with tudou/youku/use baidu's 视频 search because it's easier to find things. Quote
