Guest voixt Posted December 2, 2010 at 09:08 AM Report Posted December 2, 2010 at 09:08 AM Hello from Russia. You know I'm really puzzled by the way we are all influenced by the Chinese Zodiac. Not exactly by the respectable age-old tradition but the more pop (or even kitch) implementation of it – calendars, postcards, horoscopes published in the media, etc. It's that persistent sometimes that I'm about to believe it has nothing in common with the real Zodiac. What do you think of it? Is it the same in China or is it a bit deeper there? It would be great to hear from anyone living in (or been to) China. Voixt. Quote
bhchao Posted December 7, 2010 at 01:52 AM Report Posted December 7, 2010 at 01:52 AM Chinese zodiac is interpreted with more complexity in Hong Kong and Taiwan. For example, horoscope practitioners in Hong Kong use the Chinese zodiac in conjunction with Feng Shui. Also there is more to the Chinese zodiac than the 12 animal signs. There are the five Taoist elements of water, metal, fire, wood, and earth. Each animal sign can have five element types associated with it. The hour of birth of an individual is influential too in the Chinese zodiac. Belief in Chinese astrology was suppressed during the Cultural Revolution. It may be different now. Quote
BeijingDaniel2011 Posted January 31, 2011 at 02:58 PM Report Posted January 31, 2011 at 02:58 PM They don't use it as much as they used to. My friend explained that they used to measure the years using the zodiac but its a little bit confusing and I'm not sure I can explain it. Quote
