Yezze Posted December 10, 2010 at 01:33 AM Report Posted December 10, 2010 at 01:33 AM So for select reasons, I was wondering how to say: "When you leave, my colors fade to gray" In English it carries a romantic vibe. By, saying that when "you" leave, all my colors, which basically means joy/happiness, fade away. Can someone help me get that into Chinese? What i have below seems a little basic. I am looking for a statement that carries the same "romantic" meaning of when "you" leave, my ___ (colors is English choice) fade away. Implying that something along lines of joy/happiness fades with the ____, as "you" leave. 你离开时,我的颜色消失。 (to 灰色?) Thanks! Hopefully you can understand what i am trying to get at. It doesn't have to use the word colors (a completely new idea is fine), but i want the carry the meaning i explained above, without directly using those words. Anyone have any ideas? Quote

semantic nuance Posted December 10, 2010 at 02:25 AM Report Posted December 10, 2010 at 02:25 AM How about 當你離去時,我的人生色彩變黯淡? Or 當你離去時,我心漸憔悴 (my heart becomes graudually wan, literally.) By the way, there's a poem by 柳永 describes a similar situation you might be interested. 衣帶漸寬終不悔,為伊消得人憔悴。 Hope it helps! EDIT: I just came up with this one: 伊人離,花顏凋。 1 Quote
Kenny同志 Posted December 10, 2010 at 02:50 AM Report Posted December 10, 2010 at 02:50 AM "When you leave, my colors fade to gray" 你离开时,我的生活悄然失色(or褪色)。 They do not correspond word for word but IMO, they are pretty close in their essence. Quote
skylee Posted December 11, 2010 at 11:18 AM Report Posted December 11, 2010 at 11:18 AM Consider 與君別離日,朱顏褪色時 (when you leave, my colour fades) Take a look at the lovely 行行重行行 (basic classical chinese) for some more inspiration (it also has something like 衣帶漸寬 suggested by sematic nuance in it) - 行行重行行,與君生別離。 Quote
Kenny同志 Posted December 11, 2010 at 11:23 AM Report Posted December 11, 2010 at 11:23 AM But I am afraid we can't call a man's face 朱顏. Quote

Kenny同志 Posted December 11, 2010 at 11:32 AM Report Posted December 11, 2010 at 11:32 AM Sorry, I was wrong. It actually can be a man's face. Quote
