Help with a phrase please

Hi,

My wife and I are about to get matching tatoos. I've already gotten two translations that are totally different so I wanted some other opinions. The phrase that we are trying to get tatooed is:

"til death do us part"

I'm sure there is no literal translation, but its the thought and idea...

Here are the two translations...

How about something like Courage and Compassion.

Those are both direct and literal translations of what you want. For something more colorful (with an equivalent meaning) try these:

白頭到老 | 白头到老 ＝ "until our hair turns gray and we are old"

白頭偕老 | 白头偕老 ＝ "until our hair turns gray, we'll grow old together"

白頭相守 | 白头相守 ＝ "until our hair turns gray, we'll watch over each other"

白髮相守 | 白发相守 ＝ "until our hair turns gray, we'll watch over each other"

These are all used specifically for husband and wife pairs.

(before the pipe "|" is traditional characters, after the pipe is simplified characters, the phrase is only four characters long)

The first one is better (but not good IMO) than the second (long) one. Iwould suggest 至死不渝, which is close to the first one. Or 生則同衾死則同穴 (even death won't part you then, hoho). But really are you sure? Perhaps a tattoo of each other's name will suffice?

I am pretty sure. Skylee - What is the last character in 至死不渝? And why do you say that the one posted is not good?

It's not good because 至死不离 is not a standard form, while 至死不渝 is.
