New Members Qcool Posted January 10, 2011 at 11:42 AM New Members Report Posted January 10, 2011 at 11:42 AM the left seal seems to be fake. According to words carved on it, it should be made in Ming dynasty. The characters is much more like the modern simplified Chinese. I can traslate them into English for you, but only for the left one. 大明宣德五年,监制。工部官臣吴邦佐,造。I added several symbols into the primitive chinese so that you can easier to understand. And now the translation of English. This incense burner was made in the fifth year of emperor Xuande of Ming dynasty, which was supervised by official Bangzle Wu in the industry department. Quote
jbradfor Posted January 10, 2011 at 03:41 PM Report Posted January 10, 2011 at 03:41 PM No takers yet? Then I'll give the vase a try. [sorry, the below is simplified, while the original is traditional....] 刘老探亲 荣国府 贾母皆游 大观园 No idea what it means -- is it from or a reference to 红楼梦? Quote

Yes it is a reference to the Dream of the Red Chamber. It means that Granny Liu visits her family in the Mansion called Rongguofu. And the Dowager Lady Jia accompanies her to tour around Daguanyuan in the residence. This part of the story is commonly described as 劉姥姥進大觀園. Quote
