abcdefg Posted January 21, 2011 at 05:54 AM Report Posted January 21, 2011 at 05:54 AM CCTV 1 has been showing a drama series based on the training and adventures of young Chinese Special Forces soldiers (CPLASF -- 特种部队。 Comes on at 8 here in Kunming; lasts about an hour and a half. Well produced and acted; and overall pretty entertaining if you like that sort of thing, which I do. Quote
abcdefg Posted January 22, 2011 at 02:37 AM Author Report Posted January 22, 2011 at 02:37 AM It's somewhat reminiscent of "The Unit" which played on American TV a couple years ago and was loosely based on how a Delta Force team trains and deploys. Also had "human interest" stuff about their families, and so on. The colonel was even having an affair with the wife of one of his shooters/operators. In last night's episode of the CCTV1 show, one of the guys gets shot during what is supposed to be a training mission. His girlfriend shows up beside his hospital bed and first gives him a heated piece of her mind about engaging in such hazardous activities. Then she softens and says "Be all you can be" in English with a smile. What a strange cultural bridge that was, to toss in a US Army recruiting slogan. Quote
