Alhazred Posted November 15, 2004 at 01:33 PM Report Posted November 15, 2004 at 01:33 PM Does anyone know how to get IME to work in Mozilla Firefox (Windows 98 and Firefox 1.0) ? I just posted a message with characters in it and had to switch to IE just to type those characters whereas I usually only use Mozilla. Quote
roddy Posted November 15, 2004 at 01:44 PM Report Posted November 15, 2004 at 01:44 PM I'm not sure you can get IME to work in non MS apps on W98. I remember trying and trying to get it to work with Yahoo Messenger, but it never did - although MSN Messenger worked fine. Can you copy and paste from another app into Firefox? That's what I used to do. On the upside, you should find all these problems disappear when you upgrade to XP. Roddy Quote
Alhazred Posted November 17, 2004 at 12:49 PM Author Report Posted November 17, 2004 at 12:49 PM Yes, I can copy and paste from another app, but it's not as convenient as directly typing in Mozilla. Anyway, I'll have to do with it since I don't think my computer can handle XP... Thanks for answering, still. Quote
niubi Posted November 17, 2004 at 08:30 PM Report Posted November 17, 2004 at 08:30 PM in win98 you probably need to use njstar or other such app. Quote
Howard Posted November 17, 2004 at 09:00 PM Report Posted November 17, 2004 at 09:00 PM '98 was never very good with Chinese input n a non-Chinese system. I seem to remember being able to download the Microsoft IME from their website though? I am sure I did... or was that Windows 2000? Quote
roddy Posted November 17, 2004 at 11:11 PM Report Posted November 17, 2004 at 11:11 PM You can get the IME installed easy enough, but it'll only work in certain apps - MS ones . . . Roddy Quote
Catdiseased Posted November 20, 2004 at 11:11 AM Report Posted November 20, 2004 at 11:11 AM I remember trying and trying to get it to work with Yahoo Messenger, but it never did - although MSN Messenger worked fine. Thats not true, at least it isn't for my computer IE works fine with the Global IME thing, but MSN Messenger isn't supported. In other words, I just cannot choose Chinese from the language list, it's just not there while having activated the MSN window. Quote
trevelyan Posted November 21, 2004 at 03:39 AM Report Posted November 21, 2004 at 03:39 AM It might be an issue with the encoding of the specific webpage in the browser. Have you tried specifying it manually? Quote
Alhazred Posted November 21, 2004 at 04:35 PM Author Report Posted November 21, 2004 at 04:35 PM I can read characters allright but the top right corner bar which appears in IE and Outlook for instance and lets me choose whether to type French or Chinese does not appear in Mozilla. Changing character encoding doesn't make it appear either. As Roddy says, it seems it will only work with MS apps... Quote
