Aquatarkus Posted February 7, 2011 at 09:05 AM Report Share Posted February 7, 2011 at 09:05 AM Can anyone help me to understand the following phrase: 一个傻到说花也有泪的正教的名不见经传的傻小子 Thanks a lot in advance!
skylee Posted February 7, 2011 at 10:33 AM Report Share Posted February 7, 2011 at 10:33 AM A kid (or young man) of the Zheng Jiao whose name no one has heard of and who is so silly to say that flowers have tears. 正教 (zheng jiao) could be a name of a fictional religion/cult, or it could refer to the Orthodox churches. IMO, the Chinese sentence is very clumsy.
Aquatarkus Posted February 7, 2011 at 10:39 AM Author Report Share Posted February 7, 2011 at 10:39 AM Thank you very much. But why could it refer to the Orthodox churches?

creamyhorror Posted February 7, 2011 at 02:05 PM Report Share Posted February 7, 2011 at 02:05 PM What a weird sentence. 一个 [傻到说花也有泪的] [正教的] [名不见经传的] 傻小子 Is that how it breaks down? Because this: 一个 [傻到说花也有泪的] [[正教的名]不见经传的] 傻小子 doesn't seem likely. At the least, I think the sentence should have 顿号s to indicate the splits: 一个傻到说花也有泪的、正教的、名不见经传的傻小子
Guoke Posted February 7, 2011 at 02:25 PM Report Share Posted February 7, 2011 at 02:25 PM Would it sound better to say, "一个正教的、名不见经传、傻到说花也有泪的傻小子"?
Aquatarkus Posted February 7, 2011 at 02:39 PM Author Report Share Posted February 7, 2011 at 02:39 PM Yes, with 顿号s this sentence looks much better. Thank you all for clarifications.
