ThePhatGentleman Posted November 16, 2004 at 05:35 AM Report Posted November 16, 2004 at 05:35 AM The 21-year-old actress was arrested Saturday after police found a bag of the party drug ketamine in her car when she was stopped, several newspapers reported. Police spokesman Chris Cheung said officers arrested a 21-year-old woman surnamed Ting for possession of 0.8 gram of ketamine worth about 100 Hong Kong dollars (US$13; euro 10). Newspapers reported that Ying's real name is Ting Man. She took the stage name Cherrie Ying Choi-yi. Ting was later released on HK$1,000 (US$128; euro 100) bail, Cheung said. After her release, Ying told Apple Daily the case was being handled by her lawyer and declined further comment. Calls to Ying's company, China Star Entertainment Group, went unanswered early Sunday. Taiwan-born Ying grew up in New York and began her acting career in Hong Kong three years ago. She has starred in a dozen Hong Kong movies, including "My Left Eye Sees Ghosts" and "Why Me, Sweetie?" http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/english/doc/2004-11/07/content_389240.htm Quote
ThePhatGentleman Posted November 16, 2004 at 05:37 AM Author Report Posted November 16, 2004 at 05:37 AM Ketamine produces a dissociative state in a user. Effects can range from rapture to paranoia to boredom. The user feels its hallucinogenic effects and experiences impaired perception. Ketamine commonly elicits an out-of-body or near-death experience; it can render the user comatose. Ketamine is similar molecularly to phencyclidine (PCP--or "Angel Dust") and thus creates similar effects including numbness, loss of coordination, sense of invulnerability, muscle rigidity, aggressive/violent behavior, slurred or blocked speech, exaggerated sense of strength, and a blank stare. There is depression of respiratory function but not of the central nervous system, and cardiovascular function is maintained. Since ketamine is an anesthetic, it stops the user from feeling pain, which could lead the user to inadvertantly cause injury to himself/herself. Ketamine may relieve tension and anxiety, is purported to be a sexual stimulant, and intensifies colors and sounds. The effects of a ketamine 'high' usually last an hour but they can last for 4-6 hours, and 24-48 hours are generally required before the user will feel completely "normal" again. Effects of chronic use of ketamine may take from several months to two years to wear off completely. Low doses (25-100mg) produce psychedelic effects quickly. Large doses can produce vomiting and convulsions and may lead to oxygen starvation to the brain and muscles; one gram can cause death. Flashbacks may even occur one year after use. Long-term effects include tolerance and possible physical and/or psychological dependence. Quote

BeijingSlacker Posted November 25, 2004 at 03:44 AM Report Posted November 25, 2004 at 03:44 AM The fact that some pop stars do drugs doesn't really bother me or affect my opinions towards them. What really annoys me is that some of them, when get caught, try to deny it by lying and pretending to be innocent. Quote

arthurdent Posted September 8, 2005 at 01:26 PM Report Posted September 8, 2005 at 01:26 PM Cherrie Ying Choi-Yi was cleared of drug charges in HK court on Tuesday. Last November, Ying, 21, was arrested after it appeared she threw out a bag containing cocaine as a car she was in with three others approached a police roadblock. In dismissing the charges, Magistrate Abu Bakar bin Wahab found testimony from the supervising officer at the roadblock to be inconsistent and noted that drug tests that Ying took after her arrest were clear. What does this mean? It means what your eyes see isn't necessarily what your brain sees. It looks like something, but might seem to be something else. You look at and really see a kettle, but think it is flower, or motor car, etc., for instance. The kettle might seem to be anything except a kettle. Quote
