character Posted February 9, 2011 at 03:58 PM Report Share Posted February 9, 2011 at 03:58 PM The just out Google Translate on the iPhone lets one speak Mandarin and have it translate to English (it also supports many other languages). I've not had great luck with it so far, making me think it doesn't work all that well (somewhat likely) or my pronunciation is much worse than I thought (extremely likely). But it's free, so it's worth trying.
muirm Posted February 10, 2011 at 06:50 AM Report Share Posted February 10, 2011 at 06:50 AM Worked fairly well for me, although sometimes I had to over-enunciate to make it understand. It kept turning my 小貓 into a 小馬。The last thing I tried was "我不喜歡谷歌“ but it came back ”我不喜歡故宮“.
flameproof Posted February 11, 2011 at 04:59 AM Report Share Posted February 11, 2011 at 04:59 AM I installed and tried it and it works great! You speak to it, and it translates. You can also opt to have the translation spoken to you! And all free of charge! It's basically the same as translate.google.com + voice recognition. Works also nice on an iPod Touch 4G. As we know already from translate.google.com , it works very good with words, but should be used with great caution on sentences. One other issue (same as translate.google.com), you must be online to use it. Means you need a working wifi or data connection.
