Studying Mandarin in Ningbo University

Hi all,

I'm planning to study mandarin for one year in Ningbo and I've just found this place from Wikipedia

Ningbo University (Chinese: 宁波大学; Pinyin: Níngbō Dàxué) in Ningbo, Zhejiang.

The official website is

http://www.nbu.edu.cn/english/

Has anyone here studied there before or currently enrolled?

I want to know about the quality of the Mandarin program, the teachers, etc.

It would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I had a friend who studied there for a semester. The classes were a bit smaller than others around, and generally he seemed to enjoy it.

He said the night life and other activities was somewhat limited. There was a bar street near the river down town and an Ultimate frisbee club at Nottingham University but he still went to hang out with friends in Shanghai most weekends.

Like any course in Chinese you really have to put in the time, to get a lot out of it.

Thanks for the reply!

I've looked through the forums and couldn't find anyone that studied there (at Ningbo). Glad to hear that there's actually someone who studied there and enjoyed it.

I think I'm quite a nerd, so I'm not really interested in night life ^^

Thanks again for sharing, really appreciate it.

谢谢!

NBU is a third-rate college. Not recommended unless you can't get accepted anywhere else. Ningbo city isn't too bad, but a lot of Westerners expect a city just like back home, which Ningbo is not. I learn my Chinese in Ningbo and I've developed a local accent which isn't too bad but gets me some strange looks sometimes.

Hi,

No, sorry. In the end, I decided to go to Xiamen University.

Good luck on your study. Hope you'll enjoy your time there :)
