I don't know any Hokkien at all.

Perhaps you could make use of this Minnan dictionary of the Ministry of Education of Taiwan? -> http://twblg.dict.edu.tw/holodict/index.htm

According to this dictionary, the transliteration of the name in Minnan Hua is "Tân hō jiân / liân".

IMHO, the name will look very good as Horace Chen, or simply Chen Haoran. 浩然 is simply a great name.

Hi skylee,

Thanks so much. Been searching for a perfect name. Yes, Chen Hau Ran to me is quite charming. Problem is hubby sirname is Tan (hokkien verse) so he decided to mix and match instead of Tan Ho Jian, it'll be Tan Hau Ran.

I've no idea whether anyone did that but as long as the chinese written is 陈浩然, the english written in birth cert doesn't matter i guess.

Xiaocai,

Nope 陈浩南 in cantonese sounds like HongKong Gangster actor Chan Ho Nam .... i wouldn't want my son to be Laughing Kor haha.

Thanks so much for ur guys help.
