New Members Seraphium Posted February 26, 2011 at 03:31 AM New Members Report Share Posted February 26, 2011 at 03:31 AM Hi all Just a query The following sentence is part of a phrase. The plane was behind schedule, I was told the plane may arrive at around 5:30. So in the airport i went downstairs to the Duty free shop. The second sentence im having problems with structuring properly, i made it like this: 在飞机场我了去楼下免的税店. 在飞机场 to say in the airport 我去了楼下免的税店 - i went to downstair's duty free shop However i was told this was incorrect and the correct way to say it would be: 所以我就去了飞机场楼下的免税店 why is this? why do we start the sentence with 所以(so), i thought the subject always comes first before a word like 'so'. I guess i just want to why the construction is this way?
creamyhorror Posted March 1, 2011 at 02:54 PM Report Share Posted March 1, 2011 at 02:54 PM i thought the subject always comes first before a word like 'so'. Why do you think that? Correct: 所以 我 就 去了 飞机场楼下的 免税店 So I went to the duty-free shop [on] the airport's lower level Wrong: 在飞机场我了去楼下免的税店. - 了去 --> 去了 (了 doesn't come before the verb) - 免的税店 is not a word; 免税店 is a word meaning "duty-free shop" - 楼下 的 免税店 = the lower level's duty-free shop = the duty-free shop downstairs So in the airport i went downstairs to the Duty free shop. Why is "in the airport" in this sentence? It should be in an earlier sentence, to establish your location for the reader.
