skylee Posted March 5, 2011 at 08:49 AM Report Share Posted March 5, 2011 at 08:49 AM Does branding mean something like locked. I think unlock/debrand is 解鎖 and/or 刷機. But I am not sure.
cababunga Posted March 5, 2011 at 08:53 AM Report Share Posted March 5, 2011 at 08:53 AM No, in this case it means that carrier put their label on the phone and stuffed it with useless software, themes and so on.
liuzhou Posted March 5, 2011 at 10:03 AM Report Share Posted March 5, 2011 at 10:03 AM Can't you just peel the label off* and delete the software you don't want? * Chinese people never, ever take off the label. It is status symbol. Wear it with pride!
skylee Posted March 5, 2011 at 10:43 AM Report Share Posted March 5, 2011 at 10:43 AM Or you can buy your phone at electrical appliances stores instead of at the service providers'.
Sarevok Posted March 5, 2011 at 10:54 AM Report Share Posted March 5, 2011 at 10:54 AM Consider 原版 or 原版机 as a translation for unbranded device, e.g. HTC原版机 (as opposed to T版, which is referring to a device branded by T-Mobile)
Glenn Posted March 5, 2011 at 07:04 PM Report Share Posted March 5, 2011 at 07:04 PM Haha, when I saw the thread title my first thought was 烙印. Not quite the same kind of "branding".
New Members treesrock Posted March 7, 2011 at 02:20 AM New Members Report Share Posted March 7, 2011 at 02:20 AM Hi when you said carrier i'm not sure whether you meant service provider like China Telecom. In that case, i think there's a name 定制机 for it. I didn't know about it untill not long ago i was considering buying a new phone and when i knew it's a 定制机 i gave up. singer Posted April 3, 2011 at 02:52 PM Report Share Posted April 3, 2011 at 02:52 PM yeah, I think 定制机 is what you are trying to say. Not many thou. You can always go to a 国美,or 苏宁 to buy a phone from retailors, not carriers.
