DrZero Posted March 5, 2011 at 02:16 PM Report Share Posted March 5, 2011 at 02:16 PM Does anyone know of a class, or series of classes, that can be completed online to learn Mandarin? I can speak at a somewhat conversational level, but can't read much. So I would like something that teaches reading from the ground up. A for-credit class would be nice, but I guess it doesn't really matter.
nickpellatt Posted March 5, 2011 at 08:24 PM Report Share Posted March 5, 2011 at 08:24 PM I dont know if the UKs Open University course might be worth looking at? Im doing the course myself at the moment and have reviewed it in a recent thread on this site. Its a distance learning course, called Beginners Chinese and assumes no prior knowledge so it is from the ground up. The method of delivery is distance learning, so there is less focus on speaking than I would like, but it may suit you. Course aim is for students to be able to write 200-300 characters, and recognise around 500, by the end of the course. Next course starts November 2011 though, so you can exactly start it now. http://www3.open.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/course/l197.htm
