Harvey Posted November 24, 2004 at 02:24 PM Report Posted November 24, 2004 at 02:24 PM Hello everyone,. I am looking for some quality online Chinese-English English-Chinese dictionaries. I have been studying Japanese for about 10 years now, and I think the best tools available are... Breens. http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/wwwjdic.html and SpaceALC http://www.alc.co.jp/ and Rikai.com and Excite and stuff for backup. What high quality tools are there for Chinese people to learn English, or for foreigners to learn Chinese on the web? Thanks! Quote

jlau Posted November 27, 2004 at 07:13 PM Report Posted November 27, 2004 at 07:13 PM Check out the Chinese Language Center at http://www.yellowbridge.com/language. It features the web's only Chinese English talking dictionary as well as talking flashcards. It also contains many other unique study aids and fun content such as instant pop-up translation, chinese tongue-twisters and language-related jokes. Quote
trevelyan Posted January 22, 2005 at 08:49 AM Report Posted January 22, 2005 at 08:49 AM I'm surprised geek_frappa didn't mention his own project at http://chinese.primezero.com. The photo-to-Chinese lookup feature is ingenious. You might also find the Adso database helpful. It doesn't have a fancy website, but there is a very simple and powerful web interface: Viewing Content: http://www.adsotrans.com/adso/unidict.pl Editing Content: http://www.adsotrans.com/adso/uniedit.pl The dictionary is large (about 128,000 entries) and allows searching simultaneously on four categories (chinese, english, pinyin and part-of-speech). So if you ever need to see a list of countries that contain a particular character, or output a list of adjectives, adverbs, particles, whatever., it might be helpful. It can also be edited while browsing, which is a plus. Quote
