murrayjames Posted March 22, 2011 at 03:18 PM Report Posted March 22, 2011 at 03:18 PM Using shuangpin, how do you type a character whose pinyin begins with a vowel, like 嗯 or 爱? Specifically, what keystrokes do you press? I've tried the default shuangpin schemes in both Google and Sogou Pinyin IMEs, but I can't get it to work. Thanks..... Quote
edelweis Posted March 22, 2011 at 05:28 PM Report Posted March 22, 2011 at 05:28 PM From http://baike.baidu.com/view/1054281.htm I've not tried it myself, but it says "o" may stand for a lack of initial consonant in some shuangpin schemes including sougou. gato Posted March 22, 2011 at 05:31 PM Report Posted March 22, 2011 at 05:31 PM Type "o" as the first letter if the character doesn't have an opening consonant in its pinyin. 嗯 = of 爱 = ol I use the Microsoft Shuangpin scheme because it tends the most widely available. You can use the Microsoft scheme on any machine with Microsoft IME installed, which includes almost every PC in China. Quote

Wow, that'll take some getting used to. May make it easier to memorize the keystrokes for those finals though. Thanks! I saw some of your earlier posts on shuangpin. I gather you use it as your main input method? How is it for you? Quote
gato Posted March 23, 2011 at 12:18 AM Report Posted March 23, 2011 at 12:18 AM It's fantastic. I use Shuangpin on the PC and my phone. I think more people should try it. It only take a few hours to get used to. There are only abiut 20 keys to memorize, in contrast to the probably hundreds of rules for some other entry methods. After those few hours, you will be able to type much faster than in pinyin. Quote

murrayjames Posted March 23, 2011 at 05:27 AM Author Report Posted March 23, 2011 at 05:27 AM Yeah, I like it so far. I still make plenty of mistakes, so I made a cheat sheet to help remember all the codes. I downloaded 百度输入法 for Android. It has 双拼 mode and 手写, too, so I can work on my handwriting when speed is not an issue. My cheat sheet: =============== ai=L an=J ang=H ao=K ch=I ei=Z en=F eng=G er=R ia=W ian=M iang=D iao=C ie=X in=N ing=; iong=S iu=Q ong=S ou=B sh=U ua=W uai=Y uan=R uang=D ue=T ü=Y ui=V un=P uo=O zh=V Quote
