The Base of Practice Teaching of College of Life Science and Agriculture, Hainan University

Chemical Analytical and Testing Center of Hainan University

Biotechnology Experiment Center of Hainan University

Key Laboratory of Tropical Biological Resources of Ministry of Education

Exit & Entry Administration Service Center, Public Security Bureau of Haikou Meilan City

Here are some pictures I took today after my dinner, plus one I took a few days ago when I went to the Public Security Bureau to renew my ID card.

Overall, the translations are not bad, perhaps except the first and the last one? But is there any room for improvement?

Any comments are welcome.

"The Base of Practice Teaching" -- I have no idea what that means. It's a translation of 实习基地, right?

"Chemical Analytical and Testing Center of Hainan University" -- I don't see "Chemical" in the Chinese; could it be other types of testing, e.g. physical testing? Or is it clear from the context that it is only chemical?

"Haikou Meilan City" -- "Haikou City, Meilan section(?)"?

The 基地 is definately some kind of "base" ie base of operations, base camp, military base, etc. In this case, a better translation might have been: "Home of"... or headquarters, etc.

Also, certainly no specific mention of "chemical" I guess the translator had inside information that the caligrapher did not! :o

Thank you, Jbradfor and 盖云.

Yes, it is.

No, it can not be inferred from the context that it’s related to chemistry.

"Haikou Meilan City" -- "Haikou City, Meilan section(?)"?

Yes, Meilan is a district of Haikou city.

I made some changes to the original translations. Do you think they are made better or these changes are unnecessary ?

The Base of Practice Teaching of College of Life Science and Agriculture, Hainan University

Practice Base of College of Life Science and Agriculture, Hainan University

(The 实习基地 is actually a piece of land of several kinds of trees, where students are supposed to carry out their off-classroom studies. I don’t know whether my invented term “Practice Base” can convey the meaning or not.)

Chemical Analytical and Testing Center of Hainan University

Analytical & Testing Center, Hainan University

Biotechnology Experiment Center of Hainan University

Biotechnology Laboratory, Hainan University

Key Laboratory of Tropical Biological Resources of Ministry of Education

Key Laboratory of Tropical Biological Resources, Ministry of Education

Exit & Entry Administration Service Center, Public Security Bureau of Haikou Meilan City

Reception Office for Entry & Exit Affairs, Meilan Sub-Bureau, Public Security Bureau of Haikou City

Thanks for your comment.

I would consider "training center" for 实习基地.

Biotechnology Laboratory, Hainan University

^ This one is good.

Reception Office for Entry & Exit Affairs, Meilan Sub-Bureau, Public Security Bureau of Haikou City

I prefer the original, but would probably change it to:

Exit & Entry Administration Service Center, Public Security Bureau of Haikou, Meilan Branch

Thank you Imron.

I think training center as the translation for 实习基地 is not bad, at least better than "Practice Base".

And the changes you suggested to the last translation is also very good.

But I am still not sure whether it's better or not to replace the of's with commas.
