youreallygotme Posted March 30, 2011 at 04:59 PM Report Posted March 30, 2011 at 04:59 PM Probably wrong forum. See http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/forum/38-tattoos-names-and-quick-translations/ 1. The second one is probably inaccurate or wrong, please wait for a better translation. BTW, you can get quite far with Google Translate Quote
Posted March 30, 2011 at 11:51 PM Report Posted March 30, 2011 at 11:51 PM 1. If you really meant 'favorite', without referring to any other candidates, then youreallygotme's #1 is very good. If you are comparing it to another book(s) that you have previously referred to in context, you might consider replacing the 最 with 更 to indicate 'even more', or use a 比 construct to compare them. 2. maybe... (?) I don't know. Good question. My answer is a little more from the train's perspective. "At the time we arrived at the train station, the train was already preparing to depart." Quote
Guoke Posted March 31, 2011 at 03:18 AM Report Posted March 31, 2011 at 03:18 AM That's the book i like the most. That's the book i like the most/ I prefer. when we arrived at the train station the train was going to leave. 1 Quote
will-w Posted March 31, 2011 at 05:13 AM Report Posted March 31, 2011 at 05:13 AM That's the book i like the most 那是我最喜欢的书。 when we arrived at the train station the train was going to leave The'leave'of the train here,we say 发车fa1che2. but when we say the train is gone,it is ok to say 火车已经走了 Quote
youreallygotme Posted March 31, 2011 at 07:31 AM Report Posted March 31, 2011 at 07:31 AM When can you leave out the measure word? Couldn't find answer from my grammar book to this. I think both of these are plausible, but what's the rule? Quote
creamyhorror Posted March 31, 2011 at 07:48 AM Report Posted March 31, 2011 at 07:48 AM Both are fine. 一本 adds more emphasis on it being your single favorite book. 1 Quote

I like both of them but i haven't really get the first solution with the grade complement...in this case: 那本书是的我得喜欢 那是我最喜欢的书。 And what's the difference between 正要 and 马上要 ? both are synonymous ? youreallygotme Posted April 2, 2011 at 08:52 AM Report Posted April 2, 2011 at 08:52 AM i haven't really get the first solution with the grade complement...in this case: 那本书是的我得喜欢 You mean you want to use 得 in the sentence? I do not know if the following is correct, but I want to just throw it out here so I will learn too. Quote
creamyhorror Posted April 2, 2011 at 10:40 AM Report Posted April 2, 2011 at 10:40 AM Nope. 最好 is not a valid descriptor/adverbial for 喜欢. 1 Quote
