owen Posted December 19, 2004 at 08:57 AM Report Posted December 19, 2004 at 08:57 AM I still think the Arab example isn't a good one because the discussion was not about a situation where women don't have a choice, but where women do have a choice. It wasn't about submissive relationships either, but about pre-marital sex. I agree it might be off topic in its severity. I mean that some arab females literally imight not have a choice at all. Or the choice is between abstinence and stoning. But my original reason for mentioning that was just to give a reason that I disagreed with Student Young's perspective. Although she might not have legislative power she does have the power of popular sentiment. And when you advocate a postion that is explicitly against open attitudes towards sex and impose it on others you contribute to a situation where females free choice is hindered by social consequences..... wow that was unnecessarily wordy, sorry. Actually I think we all agree (except for the prudes). I just think some girls are afraid and consequently mindless when it comes to sex. Really one dimensional attitudes. Quote
Bowow Posted January 5, 2005 at 06:53 AM Report Posted January 5, 2005 at 06:53 AM Yes, sex is not a bad thing and should not be repressed! But sex is not a reasonable excuse for men an women to practice sex irresponsiblely. Premarital sex for sex will cause great trouble in China's moral system(e.g.morality and love panics) and lot of social problems which will finally lead to the instability in Chinese society, not just medical problems only! Studentyoung if what you're saying is true then China must have a very VULNERABLE system, the US should be raining fire and the European countries such as Denmark, Sweden should sink to the bottom of the ocean due to excessive sexual activities and cultures for almost a century. What about Chinese cultural countries such as Taiwan and HK? Societies there didn't collapse with so much pre-marital sex, and ppl are happy living there "安居樂業". I've always heard ppl from mainland China propaganding having democracy would destroy China, but never have I heard a weapons of massive destruction called pre-marital sex. People just need to be educated more as society evolves. Quote
HashiriKata Posted January 6, 2005 at 10:39 AM Report Posted January 6, 2005 at 10:39 AM Why has xiaoxiajenny not been beheaded (in the online sense)? Owen, I'll show you how to do it properly: On the one hand, you seem to be advocating an open, free attitude to sex and you mentioned a few times the " females free choice": And when you advocate a postion that is explicitly against open attitudes towards sex and impose it on others you contribute to a situation where females free choice is hindered by social consequences.... some arab females literally imight not have a choice at all. You seem also to suggest that we should adopt an open attitude in discussions: As Dylan suggested, having the ability to discuss these topics and be open about them is key. Inflexible attitudes towards it will never suffice. However, there are two females within this thread who happened to express a different view from you. What did you do in practice? You insulted them personally, you insulted their intelligence and you insulted their people: As far as understanding Chinese ignorance [/i']I think 'we have a live one here!' You [=xiaoxiajenny'] wouldn't know even if I told you. she is more like a robot [/i']trolling the discussion for strings of words. I just think some girls are afraid and consequently mindless[/i'] when it comes to sex. Do you practise what you preach? Do you accord women their choice of view as you expounded? Life has been kind to you (as least I and some other members on this forum have, you only need to check your old posts), so why be such a coward? why be such a bully? PS: I normally don't make these kinds of posts but I've gone out of my way just to show you that getting personal hurts! Quote
owen Posted January 7, 2005 at 02:59 AM Report Posted January 7, 2005 at 02:59 AM I agree that getting personal, especially on web discussions is destructive to debate. Im not so sure i really 'got personal' though. As per the poster who wrote... I think love should be beautiful and purity at least clean. I don't even mind the nationality, age, skin color(except black man)...I think if they like being with each other and feel comfortable, it's ok. The guidelines of effective debate are out the window. Please go back and read her post... its comedy, not thoughtful discussion. Like, if i posted a reply that said i think woman everywhere should at all times be naked and completely submissiven to all men, you wouldnt attack it and possibly even ridicule it? I have absolutley no problem refusing to reply to her post with anything but mockery. It's beyond the pale. As for studentyoung, my whole point was that she sounds like she is not really expounding her personal view but rather desperately trying to give moral instruction in the offensive form of attempting to convinvce the hordes to finger wag at people who stray from her view. I was criticizing the fact that she criticizes .... and now you are criticizing me for criticizing her for criticizing.... you dig? Do we really need to go over these 'you have a right to your views and I have a right to mine' platitudes. She thinks something that i think is really really dumb, to the point of being offensive, and so i said it. Why can't you just let her defend her view. I don't mind people telling me that what i write is junk if they give reasons.... not red herrings. I think the most important thing is to remain on topic even if you get a little overly zealous/agressive. And actually, Hashirikata, you didn't mention a single thing about any of the actual subject of this thread, you just wrote about my posts being 'cowardly'????? and 'preachy'. That mud is the oldest slung. [/i] Quote
HashiriKata Posted January 7, 2005 at 06:07 PM Report Posted January 7, 2005 at 06:07 PM Hashirikata, you didn't mention a single thing about any of the actual subject of this thread I don't normally post here. I made a special appearance just for you, because I care about you. I hope that has given you some comfort! Quote
