That said, the name that I'm tentatively considering is 聞智慕觉. My reasoning is as follows:

聞 - a common Chinese surname that is phonetically similar to my birth name; with the meaning "to hear," I like the general sense it gives to the whole name (but I'm also considering 文 because of the linguistic and cultural connotations)

智 - indicative of the value I place on knowledge/wisdom; phonetically similar to part of my name

慕 - mostly for its meaning ("yearning for/admiration of") in conjunction with the following character; phonetically identical to 木 which is significant because I was born in the year of the Rabbit

觉 - I'm Buddhist/Taoist, so I like the idea of "awakening" or "enlightenment." 有另外一个道理可是忘记了! I think it had something to do with The Earthly Branches or Heavenly Stems... 要是我可以记得我就EDIT。

I know that four-character names are not as common as three-character ones, but I really fell in love with the meaning I tried to construct: 聞智慕觉 -- "hearing wisdom, yearning for awakening." I would go by just 慕觉.

总之请让我知道你们的意见。谢谢!

Also, please let me know of the grammatical/usage mistakes in my post. Any and all corrections/comments/suggestions are welcome! In your response, simple Chinese is preferred, preferably with a rough English translation of the post for clarity. English-only is fine too if you don't feel like writing both. Thanks so much in advance!

如果我写了不清楚请问我诂。

聞 as a surname is ok. There was a famous Chinese writer/poet called 聞一多.

If you want the name to sound Chinese I suggest you drop one character. A single-character surname plus a three-character given name just sounds foreign (not that they don't exist, I have the impression of having come across such names but most probably the given name is a transliteration of a christian name like 王史堤芬).

Perhaps you could consider 聞智悟.
