LyYenKhang Posted April 9, 2011 at 04:33 AM Report Share Posted April 9, 2011 at 04:33 AM How to translate: "I first became interested in studying Chinese due to my love of Chinese history, music and poetry (especially Tang poetry). I fell in love with the Chinese language after reading the poem [name] by Li Bai" Thanks. (I'm informally learning Chinese w/o a teacher, I'm trying to put together a short "essay" to post on this site for correction; some sentences like this are waaay beyond my present capability)
rezaf Posted April 9, 2011 at 04:49 AM Report Share Posted April 9, 2011 at 04:49 AM I suggest that you use your dictionary and make your sentence then people can correct you. You won't learn much if someone else makes the sentence for you.

Shelley Posted April 9, 2011 at 09:55 AM Report Share Posted April 9, 2011 at 09:55 AM Hello, I agree that you should do your best effort at translating it and then ask for help. One tip I can give you is to simplfy your sentance. Make it more than one sentance. Break it down to a few important clauses and then if needed join them up with simple connecting words. Sometimes a long coplicated sentance can be duanting but can be easier than you think. Take a bit at a time. Good luck. Shelley
YuehanHao Posted April 9, 2011 at 07:24 PM Report Share Posted April 9, 2011 at 07:24 PM My Chinese is inadequate to the task. However, in that the helping-you-by-not-helping-you approach also has limitations, I will post a simplified version of the sentences (that is not a direct translation and presumably contains mistakes - hopefully it is an okay start). This illustrates the good advice for a beginner noted already to try to express oneself simply. It is probably not the best approach to learning to try to apply the full eloquence of one's native language to another one has just begun learning. Sorry if that's pedantic - anyway here is my humble effort: 由于我很喜欢中国历史,音乐,和诗 (特别是唐朝的诗),所以我决定学习中文。我看过李白写的那首《name》以后,我爱上中文。 约翰好

I fell in love with the Chinese language after reading the poem [name] by Li Bai" 我刚开始对学习中文感兴趣,是出于我对中国历史、音乐以及诗歌(尤其是唐诗)的喜爱。在读完李白的诗《名字》后,我深深地爱上了中文。 Wish this could help.
