James Cole Posted April 12, 2011 at 11:31 PM Report Posted April 12, 2011 at 11:31 PM I dislike the idea of new members having to verify posts before they're viewable to everyone else. I would like to be able to post at my own pace and time. Just a suggestion. You already have a "Bot Stop" in registration so I see no point in having this feature. 2 Quote
imron Posted April 13, 2011 at 12:27 AM Report Posted April 13, 2011 at 12:27 AM You wouldn't say that if you saw all the junk and spam that goes on the moderation queue, and which is entered by actual humans who have got past the bot-stop. Once you've made a few posts and we can tell you're not a spammer, the restriction is lifted. Quote
James Cole Posted April 13, 2011 at 02:21 AM Author Report Posted April 13, 2011 at 02:21 AM To be honest I own an IP Board as well. The simple question at registration usually does the trick; like: What color is the snow covered grass? Anyway, not that big of a deal I was just frustrated when I first posted that I couldn't view my own topic. Quote
gougou Posted April 13, 2011 at 03:27 AM Report Posted April 13, 2011 at 03:27 AM The simple question at registration usually does the trick Like imron says, it doesn't. Also, how many people answer white to your question? Quote
imron Posted April 13, 2011 at 06:38 AM Report Posted April 13, 2011 at 06:38 AM To be honest I own an IP Board as well. Not sure what kind of traffic it gets, or how many members you have, but on any given day, we'll have spam for shoes, electronics, pornography, various different Chinese language schools or learning software and so on and so forth. Not to mention people signing and just saying "This is my first post" or "Did you know Chinese has four tones?" and other trivialities that would just pollute general discussion. A moderation queue is basically essential to keep things orderly. Quote
jbradfor Posted April 13, 2011 at 01:41 PM Report Posted April 13, 2011 at 01:41 PM While I'm not against a moderation queue, I have noticed one issue with the current implementation. After a post that requires approval gets approved, it appears with the timestamp of when the poster first submitted it, not when it was approved (and appears). Since threads are sorted by the time of the last post, this results in a lot of posts by new members, especially threads started by new members, not being noticed. Anyone else noticed this and thinks it's an issue? Quote
James Cole Posted April 13, 2011 at 02:43 PM Author Report Posted April 13, 2011 at 02:43 PM I see the problem. I just think that it's kind of upsetting to new members, but if it's the best way for you guys to stop spam.. 1 Quote
imron Posted April 13, 2011 at 10:05 PM Report Posted April 13, 2011 at 10:05 PM Anyone else noticed this and thinks it's an issue Yeah it's a bit of a pain. Not sure if there's a good way to address it. I just think that it's kind of upsetting to new members I'm sure they'll get over it Quote

Appreciate the work you moderators do. Keeps this board a cut above most others. BTW, haven't heard from the boss in a long time. Is he AWOL? 1 Quote
imron Posted December 26, 2013 at 02:49 AM Report Posted December 26, 2013 at 02:49 AM So this was what the moderation queue looked like today when I logged in: Over three hundred posts for various pills and prescription drugs all from two users! I guess someone was busy over Christmas (for reference on a given day there's maybe 5-10 items on the moderation queue). Quote
Ania Posted January 5, 2014 at 11:39 PM Report Posted January 5, 2014 at 11:39 PM I've been a member for about a month and I really didn't find the verification process all that upsetting. I was "approved" immediately after 5 or so posts and since then I have been able to post without any problems. It really wasn't a big deal and as someone who used to be a member of the admin/mod team on a few forums, I totally get why things have to be done that way. Quote
