Hugh Posted April 14, 2011 at 04:12 PM Report Posted April 14, 2011 at 04:12 PM Well, Questia and Google Books should be pretty good for preliminary stuff. If you have access to JSTOR that's brilliant for all kinds of academic research. What sort of material are you looking for, exactly? The topic seems pretty huge so it's hard to narrow anything down without knowing more. Just a couple of bits and bobs here, not sure how relevant they are for you: http://books.google....d=MCXaTUG8WykC http://www.jstor.org/stable/3632873 http://www.jstor.org/stable/2952516 http://www.jstor.org/stable/30032920 http://www.jstor.org/stable/223491 What's your word count? Searches for 'scholarly trends', 'paradigm', 'currents', 'perspectives', 'literature', 'historiography' etc. combined with 'asia' 'sinology' 'japanology' might return something useful. You'll probably find that most of the early European scholars of things Asia-related were missionaries, particularly Jesuits, so it might be worth looking them up. Other things to look at might be the various European 'x Trading Companies' e.g. the British and Dutch East India Trading Companies, as they generated a lot of scholarly interest in Asia. Sorry I can't be of much more help without more information on the topic specifically. Quote
