helixness Posted April 16, 2011 at 02:50 AM Report Posted April 16, 2011 at 02:50 AM Hello all, I know there's been plenty of discussing regarding grammar books. I have read most of them but can't seem to make up my mind. I have an amazon gift card and I'd like to use it to purchase a grammar workbook, I think that's the best I can make out of the money! Anyways, what I am really looking for are exercises. I own the french "Bescherelle Chinois" which is IMO the best reference, so I don't want to buy yet another reference in english. From what I understood, the grammar books by Claudia Ross and Yip Po-Ching seem to be the best out there. Which one includes the most exercises? are they multiple choice or fill in blank, etc? I live in the US so I'm looking at amazon.com, unless you guys know of an excellent online source for grammar exercises, then I'll keep searching for a book! Quote
anonymoose Posted April 16, 2011 at 03:18 AM Report Posted April 16, 2011 at 03:18 AM The Basic Chinese: Grammar and Workbook by Yip and Rimmington has plenty of exercises, of various kinds, and crucially, has answers in the back. In my opinion, it is one of the best books available, although I haven't compared it with more recent publications. 1 Quote
helixness Posted April 16, 2011 at 03:27 AM Author Report Posted April 16, 2011 at 03:27 AM I've just spent hours comparing which would have the most exercises and I think Yip Po-ching has the best workbooks out there ... one for basic and intermediate. I believe I could start at intermediate but I hear that some areas are only covered in the basic, so I ought to buy both of them. Quote
