Kenny同志 Posted April 17, 2011 at 08:53 AM Report Share Posted April 17, 2011 at 08:53 AM Need some information about the Amazon Kindle I went to www.amazon.com and have been infatuated with the Amazon Kindle because it is lightweight and doesn’t look like an e-reader at all; it looks like a real paper book. The 139 $ Kindle have a memory capacity of 4G which means it can house 100-200 e-books assuming each book occupies 2 to 4MB. So if I have one I will no longer have to carry a cumbersome box full of books around. My questions: Does it support Chinese characters on a PDF file? Does it work well with PDF and doc files? Can I add a note somewhere (in the margin or space between lines) in the PDF file if needed? Any advice or suggestions about buying the gadget will be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help. gato Posted April 17, 2011 at 09:03 AM Report Share Posted April 17, 2011 at 09:03 AM Does it support Chinese characters on a PDF file? Does it work well with PDF and doc files? Can I add a note somewhere (in the margin or space between lines) in the PDF file if needed? Yes to your first two questions. It also supports Chinese characters in Word docs, HTML and text files, and MOBI ebook files. To your third question, yes, but the notes function does not support Chinese characters. You'll have to use Latin characters -- either English or pinyin ;) . gato Posted April 17, 2011 at 09:12 AM Report Share Posted April 17, 2011 at 09:12 AM If you intend to read lots of PDFs with scanned images, then the DXG is your best choice. Images are too small on the smaller 6-inch Kindle. For text, the smaller Kindle is perfectly fine.
Kenny同志 Posted April 17, 2011 at 09:18 AM Author Report Share Posted April 17, 2011 at 09:18 AM I do have some scanned books but they account for a very small percentage of my ebooks. I googled DXG. It turns out DXG is a camera, not a reader. What is it exactly?

gato Posted April 17, 2011 at 09:27 AM Report Share Posted April 17, 2011 at 09:27 AM Kindle DXG is a version of the Kindle with a larger 10-inch screen, which makes it better for viewing images. http://s.taobao.com/search?q=kindle+dxg&keyword=&commend=all&ssid=s5-e&search_type=item&atype=&tracelog=&sourceId=tb.index Kindle DXG

imron Posted April 17, 2011 at 10:58 AM Report Share Posted April 17, 2011 at 10:58 AM a memory capacity of 4G which means it can house 100-200 e-books assuming each book occupies 2 to 4MB. 4GB ~= 4,000 MB, so assuming each book is 2-4 MB, it can hold 1,000-2,000 e-books.
