New Members aijidan Posted April 17, 2011 at 04:31 PM New Members Report Posted April 17, 2011 at 04:31 PM Hi everyone This is a first post for me - I found this forum very interesting, a big thanks to this great community! I've been studying Chinese for two years now besides my fulltime job and have just passed HSK Level 3. Since I work I don't have too much time to travel but this summer I will have a chance to spend 2 - 3 weeks in China which I would like to use best to further improve my communication skills. Reading this forum, I have nailed my choices down - Private school or tutor (universities only have longer programs; I work, so cost is not so much of an issue) - Northeast for proper Putonghua - Not Beijing, too many laowai - Not Xi'An, too hot - So choices would be Dalian, Shenyang, Changchun or Haerbin - Even smaller cities probably don't offer the teaching amenities I would require Most posts in here are from people having studied at Universities over an extended period of time and the info on private language schools / tutors is a bit limited or outdated for these Tier2 NE cities. I look at something like 5 hrs / day of classes, the rest of the time I would try to get myself immersed as good as it is possible in the short time with some locals. My questions would be: - Can anyone recommend a private tutor in these cities? - Same for private schools? Thanks for your feedbacks! Cheers, Aijidan Quote
abcdefg Posted April 18, 2011 at 01:22 AM Report Posted April 18, 2011 at 01:22 AM In the summer of 2008 I studied six weeks in Harbin and was well pleased. Had one-to-one classes 4 hours a day, which is my pracital limit. I don't know how the school is today, but I do know they still exist. Here's the website, you can contact them for more information. http://1to1mandarinworkshop.com/ 1 Quote

Harbin seems like a nice place, not too distracting and pleasantly cool, should be all right :-) Best regards Aijidan Quote
