sambar Posted April 19, 2011 at 05:24 AM Report Posted April 19, 2011 at 05:24 AM Hi there! I'm going to Xiamen University this upcoming May until July for a Basic Mandarin Course. Does anyone have any experience with Xiamen University or Xiamen in general? Thanks! Quote
hht Posted April 19, 2011 at 01:44 PM Report Posted April 19, 2011 at 01:44 PM I cannot help you with knowing Xiamen university. But the city is lovely. I spent about 5 days there in february this year. It is big/developed enough that I dont think you will have a huge culture shock. Yet not a metropolis city by any stretch. Whilst I was mulling over study next year in China I )once i visited Xiamen) had it down as a shortlist to enquire about. In the end I am trying to sort one out with links to my field rather than just a pretty place. The island (Gulangyu i think is its name?) is also very nice, which an art university on it which if I was an artist looking for some space and inspiration I definately would try and study there. Overall nice city, there is a pizza hut near the university which we found once we had returned from the nearby roundhouse. Quote

Quite a bit of information on Xiamen and Xiamen University already exists on the forum. One member lives there and attends that school. He has written a good deal on both the school and the city. Do a search. Use the box in the upper left, not the one in the upper right. 1 Quote
