HSK examples and preperation vs. the real test

Hi everybody.

Does anyone have any experience in trying the example exams given by Hanban before the HSK test? Can someone give his opinion about whether the example test reflect the actual test level? (please provide the exam level your were taking.)

Also, is it true that the preperation books made by various colleges are a bit harder than the expected level?

You can buy past test papers which will give you a true indication of the level.
