@Brent:

Hi Brent,

Can you please tell me who at the DC embassy emailed you? Also, did he/she mention that there are more applications to come or is this it?

Thank you!

Liu Xiao emailed me. He/She didn't say if they've emailed all recipients or not.

I still have not received an email either :( But I saw in a post on this forum that someone got an email last week. Whoever got the scholarship results last year and this year, could you please let us know the first name of the person who emailed you? I am getting butterflies in my stomach!

Congrats to everyone that got the scholarship so faR! To those that haven't heard back yet... I'm with ya!

I completely put this scholarship results out of my mind until yesterday when I decided to email DC embassy (no response). But after having gone through 20pages on this thread, I am now acutely feeling everyone's anxiety... Late July is quite late to be making plans. My loans are going into repayment but I can't job-hunt when I don't know if I'll be jumping on a plane in late August! Can't find internship opportunities in China... because I might never make it over there! I feel like I'm stuck in some sort of limbo! haha

**Special thanks to everyone for posting links to the schools' acceptance lists!!

I found I'm not on two of the top 3 choices of schools I listed (Zhejiang & BNU). My other choice was beida and since that one's known to be ultra-competitive... highly doubt I got that one. Hoping for a chance anywhere at this point. Hopefully Kunming! Just in case though... anyone have that link to Peking U's list? I'd like to put out that last glimmer of hope sooner than later.

@Helios: Do you know WHEN you got that email last year? My quick search shows I got mine July 16th so I guess we still have time. WAsn't too anxious last year because already had plans set with another full scholarship.

@Kdavid: Hm thats strange that you are receiving that email from Ms. Xiao Liu. She told me last year during the application process that she no longer handles these scholarships and to contact Mr. Liu Xiang.

Something to do to ease the anxiety:

1) What is your native country? U.S.

2) Where did you apply? The Chinese Embassy in Washington D.C.

3) When did you apply? early/mid January

4) When was the deadline? April 30th

5) Have you applied for the scholarship before? Yes, accepted last year but declined it. (which is what kind of scares me, they might not think I'm serious about it this year)

6) What program did you apply for? Language 1 year

7) What schools did you put for your preferences? 1. Peking 2. Zhejiang 3. BNU (if I remember correctly)

8 ) Did you apply for your school of choice beforehand? No

9) What agency number did you use? DC Embassy

10) Where did you get your physical done? Harbin Import/Export Quarantine Inspection Center (um... not an exact translation from memory)

11) How did you get your documents notarized? Failed at getting them notarized in China (they wanted to charge a lot more for translation when that is not necessary for English documents!); notarized in 5minutes in South Korea!

12) Where do you get official Chinese red stamps? Can probably find some knock-offs in the back alley stores and street vendors! No problemo

I'll come back to update the following later!

13) Were you accepted for the scholarship, if you were not then why?

14) How were you notified?

15) When were you accepted/rejected?

16) What school and program were you accepted to?

update i was not accepted! there goes my plans~ but hey with every door that closes, a window opens. congrats & have a great year to those who got it!

Unless I have been in communications with the person via email previously, I would be concerned to respond with my real mailing address to someone I have never received an email from before. Maybe call the embassy first to verify that the email is real before sending the person my mailing address?

@vkim: I'm not sure of the process that CSC has set up, but its logical that you could have gotten into Zhejiang and/or BNU and not be on their released list. Reason being is that Beida is your top choice, and even if Zhejiang/BNU has deemed you qualified, they would still need to wait for Beida's response. They wouldn't want to accept you (and have you start paperwork), only to find Beida has accepted you later on.

Now if anyone from previous years has had this happen to them, hopefully they could let us know. Or if you find this to be the case with you this year, let us know for future applicants. Hopefully we can reverse engineer their administrative process =).

@doodling

Basically, you're right, I think. The application material will be forwarded to the other preference universities when the first preference has rejected the applicant.

But on the other hand, every university can admit a certain number of scholarship students. So I don't think that universities, that have already released their results, will admit more students afterwards. My guess is that the pre-selection was made much earlier.

@vkim67

If my theory is correct, chances are either you got into Beida :) or a university you didn't choose ...

Then, they will not have any other excuses for further delays! It will be results' time and I pray for all of us here!

@HappyCSCscholar-- We sent some emails back and forth during the application process and he knows I was directly referred to him by Liu Xiao so it shouldn't be too random. But it seems Liu Xiao is still handling it... I guess I'll just wait another week or two before I start job hunting here instead. I'm sure he's getting bombarded with emails left and right about the results when he doesn't have it. I'm sure he's eager to let everyone know too.

@Doodling & Xiaomayi-- sounds reasonable, didn't think of it like that. Well knowing how competitive Beida is I'm just crossing my fingers hoping to get someplace with temperate weather! (After having been in Harbin all year and now in scorching so-cal!) hmm Kunming??

JUST a feeling I have but seems to me MA/PhD students are preferred (over language students)... AND that American students seem to be low on their priority list too... double whammy -_____-

OK EVERYBODY!!! just a couple more weeks left!

Interesting to hear that we are starting to get some replies. Good luck to all concerned!

I have made things somewhat more complex by applying to Tsinghua privately as well as through the EU Window Scholarship (I intend to enrol and self-fund through work if my application fails). I recently received an email from Tsinghua congratulating me on being accepted on to the programme though I suspect this is simply a response to my private application.

Tsinghua was my first choice as part of the scholarship application so I am interested if anyone else who has applied to the said university has received any contact or knows about “the list”.

vkim67@ Have you contacted Xiao Liu lately and what has she said to you regarding whether there will be any more packages coming from CSC for this year?

Good Luck to Everyone! If you get the scholarship then it is your good fortune. If you don't get the scholarship, then there will be something else good coming your way down the road...don't worry, good things come to those who wait...and work hard!

@HappyCSCschola- LiuXiang has not answered my email (which I sent Friday morning and now its the weekend) and I have not made any phone calls to LiuXiang or LiuXiao yet. Since I got my notification on the 16th last year, I figured I could at least wait til then.
