New Members Looq Posted May 11, 2011 at 09:59 PM New Members Report Share Posted May 11, 2011 at 09:59 PM Hey everyone, some great forums you have here, I've just had a little nosey around. Chinese is always something I've wanted to learn, it seems to me tha it would be challenging, and I like that. Anyway, I think my girlfriend has been conned by a tattoo artist (or maybe she's having an affair ). She got the following Tattoo: (Click herefor an alternate image.) Sorry for the bad quaility it was hard to get one in focus. She thinks it says "sinner" in Japanese although to me it looks more like "Simon" in Chinese. Indeed I've looked up "sinner" in Japanese and it looks nothing like the one she has. Just wanted to get a second opinion. What do you think it says? xiaocai Posted May 14, 2011 at 04:05 PM Report Share Posted May 14, 2011 at 04:05 PM The writing is not bad. But Western Mongolia? You separatist!
Glenn Posted May 14, 2011 at 04:09 PM Report Share Posted May 14, 2011 at 04:09 PM No, no. There were no political undertones in my comment, I can assure you. 'Twas merely a joke.
jbradfor Posted May 14, 2011 at 05:52 PM Report Share Posted May 14, 2011 at 05:52 PM So the second character is 蒙?
Glenn Posted May 14, 2011 at 08:35 PM Report Share Posted May 14, 2011 at 08:35 PM That's what it looks like to me.
xiaocai Posted May 16, 2011 at 03:47 AM Report Share Posted May 16, 2011 at 03:47 AM Mine was supposed to be a joke, too... I don't know what 西蒙 means in Japanese but it has nothing to do with sinner in Chinese. I don't know which dictionary the inker used but I think even free google translate would have been a better choice...

Glenn Posted May 16, 2011 at 04:04 AM Report Share Posted May 16, 2011 at 04:04 AM I don't know what 西蒙 means in Japanese... Nothing, it seems. I pretty much figured you were joking, but sometimes it's hard to be sure with text.
New Members Looq Posted May 16, 2011 at 08:48 AM Author New Members Report Share Posted May 16, 2011 at 08:48 AM Thanks guys. She feels suffciantly like an idiot now. She wants to get it "fixed" but I don't see how she would go about doing that without ending up with a massive tattoo on the back on her neck (I warned her not to get a tattoo in a language she didn't understand but alas she didn't listen).
