Travel permit for Chinese mainland citizen to visit Hong Kong

What sort of permission document does a Chinese Mainland Citizen need to visit Hong Kong and how is it obtained?

I'm told it isn't an actual visa, though it is something that must be arranged in advance, not just handled at the border. A friend called it "tong shen zheng," which I'm guessing means 同身证, but I cannot find that term on-line. Did I guess the characters wrong or was she misinformed?

Let me edit my original post because I just found what was needed here:

"Mainland Residents ... who wish to come here for sightseeing purpose in individual capacity are required to obtain an Exit-entry Permit for travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macao and an "endorsement for individual visit (Geren Luyou)" from the relevant Public Security Bureau Office."

http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/hkvisas_9.htm#individual_visits

Still would like to know what it's called in Chinese and how long it usually takes to arrange through the PSB. Is it expensive or difficult to obtain? Anyone had firsthand experience with it?

Or, if you click on the Chinese version of the link you posted.....

P.S. Just in case it's not obvious, not all mainland citizens are able to travel to Hong Kong on their own; depending on where one lives (?? or one's 戶口??), one might be required to join a tour.
