doraemon Posted May 22, 2011 at 12:41 PM Report Posted May 22, 2011 at 12:41 PM Hi guys, my apologies if I'm not posting in the right place, but "Society" seemed to be the most apt classification for which this thread can come under. I was wondering how many of you (especially those of you living in China) are acquainted with Chinese brand names such as ANTA, Li Ning, ERKE, 361 degrees...etc? I don't know many others outside sporting apparel, but there are numerous other ones sold in department stores as well. Do you guys prefer to buy foreign brands, or the Chinese ones? Quote
my3rdlang Posted May 23, 2011 at 02:50 AM Report Posted May 23, 2011 at 02:50 AM I am familiar with the brands you listed. In China, I usually buy Chinese brands. My favourites: G2000 (Hong Kong brand): Only sold in Asian countries Ao Kang (shoe shop): Unlike many Chinese brands, they guarantee quality. They offer exchange/replacement within 30 days if your shoes turn out to be defective. Never needed it though. Because western brands are overpriced here! A pair of Adidas shoes cost around RMB1000 (US150). Even when on sale, they still cost around US$60-80! I bought a pair of Adidas shoes last year in usa and they only cost me around $25 (at Piperlime). Plus, I have friends and family who can bring me stuff from the West. Quote
rob07 Posted May 23, 2011 at 02:51 AM Report Posted May 23, 2011 at 02:51 AM I've got a 上海滩 jumper and I expect I would own more of their stuff if I lived in China and/or had more patience for clothes shopping. I like the way they try to mix up old fashioned and trendy. The English name of the brand is Shanghai Tang, which I find interesting. I guess Tang "looks more Chinese" than Tan. But it is also sort of ironic in that people from Shanghai often don't distinguish between "n" and "ng" very clearly. I have a friend from Shanghai and if you asked them whether the pinyin for any particular character ended in "n" or "ng" they would just be guessing. I've got no idea about Chinese sportswear, although obviously Li Ning personally is pretty famous. Quote
skylee Posted May 24, 2011 at 03:57 AM Report Posted May 24, 2011 at 03:57 AM The founder of "Shanghai Tang" is David Tang, thus the Tang in the brandname rather than Tan. I like this brand a lot, and usually try to get some jackets/scarves whenever they are on sale. I've seen other mainland brands that do similar things quite well (the brand "漁牌" is particularly likeable). But AFAIK they only have women's clothes and are not as well developed as Shanghai Tang. gougou Posted May 24, 2011 at 05:43 AM Report Posted May 24, 2011 at 05:43 AM I've seen all the brand names you listed above, though I probably wouldn't even be able to recognize their logos. VANCL seems to be doing pretty well, also. Quote
langxia Posted May 24, 2011 at 02:57 PM Report Posted May 24, 2011 at 02:57 PM I am a big Li Ning fan, their stuff isn't too expensive but the quality is good. 1 Quote
skylee Posted June 12, 2011 at 08:53 AM Report Posted June 12, 2011 at 08:53 AM Oh this is a brand that seems to be doing quite well -> FEIYUE sneakers Quote
xiaocai Posted June 12, 2011 at 09:33 AM Report Posted June 12, 2011 at 09:33 AM I don't really have any preference to any particular brand. As long as it is inexpensive and fits me, and of good quality if possible. I'm not a fan of any sports brands though. Quote
anonymoose Posted June 12, 2011 at 10:07 AM Report Posted June 12, 2011 at 10:07 AM I don't care about brand. In fact, I hate shopping for clothes anyway. Quote
Brian US Posted June 12, 2011 at 12:56 PM Report Posted June 12, 2011 at 12:56 PM I normally only buy shoes in China. I like a nice pair of flip flops for the summer or a cheap Western knock off shoe, so I end up going to the Silk Market. Also a little hard to find a size 45. I'm more like anonymoose when it comes to shopping, but I don't like the Chinese style of ugly polo shirts and jean shorts. I still fit in the same clothes from middle and high school, so I don't shop much. I'm also pretty short, I'm hoping to hit the second growth spur I hear about around 28 years old... Quote
xiaocai Posted June 12, 2011 at 02:07 PM Report Posted June 12, 2011 at 02:07 PM I'm hoping to hit the second growth spur I hear about around 28 years old. Is there such a thing? You did not mean sideways did you, because I think I can feel this tendency on myself... 2 Quote
