It is the name given to me by my chinese friend. But when I told other people my name, they just look at me funny. So, I'm a little bit worried, since I have no knowledge whatsoever when it comes to this language.

Thank you in advance for all your answers!

I don't think 诗 is a surname, or if it is it's a rather uncommon one. 露 is a very common woman's name (if you're a man, that would explain the weird looks). Not sure if 诗露 as a given name would work, I don't see anything wrong with it.

My Chinese name is 施露. Some people on the forums here once said it's not a great name, but in real life I've never had weird looks about it, so I kept it. People say it's 很好听, which is probably just being polite, but ah well.

so, both of you, do you pronounce 露 lu4 or lou4 ? Wrong pronunciation might explain the weird looks...

I find it weird. Perhaps it's because what it refers to is too specific, and 詩 is a high art, but 詩-ing about 露 or the 露 of 詩 is quite perfunctory, therefore making it strange. Sorry about the Chinglish.

Lu4. Lou4 would be weird.

OH, I see. Thank you!

Could you help me think of a good character that would go with Lu? Since I don't want anymore of those glances my way!

You can have it as a single-character given name, and just pick a surname you like to go with it. What does your real surname mean/sound like? Perhaps you can pick one that matches it.

I think 诗露 is a meaningful name, but I'm not a chinese, so, I guess I can't say much. But I've been poking around sites and I was thinking, how about 晓露? It means morning dew, and I think it's a very romantic name.

Hope I help some!
