Import lists in Chinese Homework Trainer? Or alternative software

Apologies in advance for a technical question but can't find a relevant website with advice.

I'd like to import lists from a text file and can manage to add it so that it appears in the programme, and it looks fine - the characters, pinyin and translations are all there. But as soon as I try to study the words the characters are gone. If I use the pre-programmed words or words that I add manually into the programme the characters show up normally.

Any advice would be much appreciated if there are any technically competent users of the software out there!

Alternatively, do you happen to know of any other software in which you are meant to both be able to import lists AND memorize using for instance multiple choice or drag and drop (as opposed to plain flashcards)?
