frozenmyth Posted December 9, 2004 at 08:01 AM Report Posted December 9, 2004 at 08:01 AM Do Asians study all the time without having time for fun? What do you all think about that? Do Westerns in Asia project that kind of assiduous or book only attitude too? Or are Westerners still as lively as they are in the West. Quote
xuechengfeng Posted December 9, 2004 at 08:40 AM Report Posted December 9, 2004 at 08:40 AM I wasn't aware someone has studied the study habits of over 1 billion Asians. That's quite a feat. Quote
Bob Dylan Thomas Posted December 9, 2004 at 11:13 AM Report Posted December 9, 2004 at 11:13 AM the population of asia has to be at least 2.5billion, what with China and India in there - which makes the term "Asians" utterly meaningless. however, if you're talking about the stereotypical picture of Chinese/Korean students studying from dawn 'til dusk, always the last ones to leave the library at night and the ones queueing up outside it in the morning (which is the stereotype most Westerners at my univerity have of Chinese and Korean students), then i think they should be emulated. The British students at my university (to stereotype them all) are a bunch of lazy f*ckwits to whom university is three years of state-sponsored pissing about, who lower academic standards and sit around watching daytime tv all day. They should read some books or **** off. I'm not saying all ASian students are obsessed with studying at all times, but the image of a student who is actually dedicated to their subject (regardless of their ethnicity) is one that more British students at least should work towards. i woudl like to apologise for the coarse language in this post - i'm sorry but this is one issue that has been pissing me off for 4 years now. Comrade Yixian Posted December 9, 2004 at 05:30 PM Report Posted December 9, 2004 at 05:30 PM Well, there is one girl I have seen in my college who spends all her free time in the library, probably working, but 1) there is practically no reason at all to believe this has any relation to her race (I think she is Chinese, probably Cantonese) and 2) I do not judge her in any for this at all, people can do whatever the hell they like with their lives, I myself have suffered slightly from the pressure of conformityso I can relate how hard it must be for her to maintin her way of life. In a way I guess it's admirable... Or maybe I just fancey her way too much ;) *giggles uncontrollably* Quote
vinhlong Posted December 10, 2004 at 11:31 AM Report Posted December 10, 2004 at 11:31 AM I think sometimes parents stimulate their childeren too much to focus on their studies. Sometimes resulting in negligence of other important aspects of their lives. Quote
PollyWaffle Posted December 10, 2004 at 01:42 PM Report Posted December 10, 2004 at 01:42 PM there's not much else to do in china Quote
geek_frappa Posted December 12, 2004 at 12:13 AM Report Posted December 12, 2004 at 12:13 AM Do Asians study all the time without having time for fun? Do Africans study all the time without having time for fun? Quote
